My two year old DSC-M1 just lost ability to record sound- the microphone is loose or broken. Does any one know where to go to get this repaired?

Well SONY can repair it. That much is certain. Head to their website for an estimate or a list of certified repair stations near you.

But the issue is, how much will it cost? Rule of thumb is that if repairs cost north of 50% to do, then it's much wiser to take that money and put it towards a newer, upgraded model. And since this camera is about 3 years old, is consistently low rated, it may be time to move on to a better option.

I had the same problem. Took it to an authorized repair shop, was charged ~$150 to replace the microphones (2) and still had the problem, took it back and replaced again, still have the problem. I guess $700 cameras are only suppose to last 2 years these days...
