Use camera when lcd is closed?

Is there any way that anyone found out to use the camera with the lcd closed and the lcd flipped so you can see it (so it looks like a regular camera)? Sometimes its just strange to use the camera with the lcd flipped out. Even if its not in the settings or anything, is it possible to take the camera apart and remove the mechanism that tells it to turn off when you close the lcd? This would be fine because the camera still has a dedicated power button.

I have a Canon Powershot S3 and I'm able to open and flip it into the body of the camera. You don't say what type of camera you have but I don't think anyone would recommend taking the camera apart!
