The DSc m-1 is not recording in Photo / Movie mode but the photos already in the memory stick is played back.

After downloading the photographs from the camera I formated the memory stick( 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo) to clear all the recordings. Afterwards i found that the my DSc m-1 Camera is not recording. While down loading I might have deleted some photographs when the camera was connected to the computer.

Formatting the memory stick shouldn't have messed up your camera. But you may want to try reformatting it, paying close attention to whether you formatted it correctly the first time. Take the stick out and put it back in to "seat" it back into the slot. Then try resetting your camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Sony's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.
