DSC-M1 is shooting very faint, white photos, as if covered by a gauze.

My Sony DSC M1 is all of a sudden, taking only very faint, white gauze like covered photos. Video is OK and in full coclour. I have reset, but had no joy. Even left the battery out for a few days. Camera has not been dropped or damaged. Last I took video, since then I can't take photos - the images are very very fain and covered in a white film.

You've got a faulty CCD sensor that Sony has issued a service advisory for. In essence, you need to contact Sony about the advisory and request they repair or replace it per that advisory. They should do it for free.
