Sony P10 - Shutter will not retract and gives error message

I've gone through about 3 Sony Dsc-P10's, as I have all the accessories - lens and underwater casing. The problem exists with all three. The shutter will not retract now, and gives me an error message. I don't know if this is a manufacturer defect or what...? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

It's a common issue with zoom cameras. The lens comes slightly out of alignment. If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do have Sony should fix it. If your camera is out of warranty, then you may have to send it in for a repair estimate anyway. Be be warned that the average camera repair is around $180, so it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

the one thing you can try is to If you gently, and I do mean GENTLY push against the lens with the PALM of your hand as you turn it on, it may cause it to depress back into the camera. If that doesn't work, and you can't reset it or turn it on/off several times,

Thank you James! I will try that, as I have 3 of these Sony Cameras, just trying to get one that may go the distance. Perhaps I just need to cut my losses, and get something else! Alas! Take care, Kristi

Well, you know the old phrase, "those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it ..." if it's happened to all three, maybe it IS time to look to another option ... I like Canon.
