Fred,

I went through a few sites and found a manufacturer suggested retail price of $500 here. With the price of cameras over 5MP going for under $200 today, I would have to say that the $500 is the introductory price.

I purchased a DSC-P10 from Best Buy in January 2004 for $499 + tax and the cost of an add'l warranty. They sell used on Ebay now for as low as $20 in fair working condition.
