E61 flashes but turning the camera of and on dosn't fix the problem of the lense being stuck

lense won't close

if it doesn't work it's way back into alignment, I'd recommend not forcing the issue and sending it in for repair. But it may cost more to fix than the camera is worth. If it costs north of 50% what you paid, you're better off using the money on a new camera. Especially since this one is nearly 5 years old.

Thank you for answering but someone told me to bang it on the palm of my hand, I was ready to dispose of the camera so I gave it a go and now it works fine at no cost. I guess that knocked it back into alignment...

I'd say you were lucky this time. Hitting electronics around usually causes more trouble than it fixes. Not to mention voiding any warranty still in force. But since it worked, let's just chock it up to fortunate favoring you and hope you don't have to do it again.

The camera stopped working two years ago, this was a last chance thing before I threw it out. I am very careful with electronic things, don't really think 'giving them a bang' is the way to go! but, as you said, I was just lucky this time!
