Try pushing the LCD Display button- it is the center button in the row of three, beneath the menu button. It's got a box with two lines on either side as its icon.

I tired pushing the LCD Display button. all it does is display the battery inidcator. four dots like
. .

. .

two rounds things above the dots, and a small message that says "on". Do you think I need to take this baby in for repair?

That button is supposed to turn the LCD on and off as well as control the information display, which is the stuff that pops up on the screen like the battery indicator. Did you try pushing and holding it? Maybe just pushing it once controls the info and holding it for a few seconds turns the LCD on and off. That is just a wild guess.

The other possibility here is that your camera is affected by the bad CCD sensors that came out in quite a few Sony cameras awhile back. Sony is currently doing repairs on them for free, and the symptoms of this problem are either streaky vertical lines... or no picture at all, as you're experiencing. I wonder if this isn't what's wrong with yours.

I would give Sony a call at 1-866-703-7669. Here is a link that talks about this recall:
