Stuck closed lens window- Any fix??

My lens window stays closed and won't open. I can hold it open with my finger but that doesn't solve the problem as my blurry fingers are in each picture. Everything else works OK . Maybe I should glue it permanently open!!
Tried blowing, dusting, jarring banging but nothing works. Sony service are about as useful as teats on a bull!!

Hmm, this isn't good. I'm assuming from its age that the camera isn't under warranty anymore. I have heard that this problem is either due to a small piece of dust jamming the cover, or to a small gear in there that is knocked out of place. The two solutions are to blow gently around the lens cover and try to dislodge the dust (some people recommend compressed air for this, but be v.v. careful if you do that as you can easily damage the lens). The other solution for the stuck gear is to whack the camera firmly (but not firm enough to break it) against the flat of your hand. I don't know if either of those solutions will help you... but maybe worth a try. Be gentle!

Brenda,
Your solution is to blow on it or "whack" it firmly? Thanks for this very technical insight.

I will try that but have not spilled anything on it. It was in a soft case for it, and dropped maybe too many times. I want to get it to work again so I can sell it. LOL
