I have a friend who owns a Sony SLR, not sure which model. I noticed that the LCD screen can be angled so that you can hold the camera at waist level

Which Sony model cameras allow you to angle the LCD screen and is this only with Sony SLR's? Do Nikons do this as well?

Hi J.,

Sony only has one SLR on the market (the Alpha a100), and it doesn't have a vari-angle screen. As far as I know, no SLR does, because SLRs don't have live LCD preview when shooting. The Sony you're probably thinking of is the R1, which is SLR-like, but not quite an SLR (no removable lens, no mirror/real shutter, etc). Hope this helps!

could be s DSC-F717, F727 or F828. They're not SLR's, but they do have LCD screens that pivot. I have a DSC-F727 and enjoy this feature

You are right. I have had the chance to get another look at this camera and it is not an SLR. It is the R1. I really liked this feature, but have decided on the Nikon D40.
Thanks for your help.
