Camera suddenly not charging

I must have been one of the 1st to have this camera and have used it contantly but when I tried to use today it was dead and I thought needed charging as it has been out of it's cradle for a week. However, when I put it in it's cradle it's not charging and appears to be completely dead. Any ideas or help will be much appreciated, obviously I've tries all of the usual things like switches.

Many thanks in anticipation/

The fact is that sometimes batteries just die. Especially when they aren't charged for awhile. This camera is nearly 4 years old. And the older the lithium ion battery (which it takes), the more likely it won't last simply because of it's age. That's a common, yet unadvertised, drawback of the Lithium Ion setup.

Yow! I have the exact same problem. Sony will repair it for their flat rate of $181. I'm looking for a different solution. Just the battery? Doubt it, but I'm willing to see if that's the problem.

Well, LiOn batteries do die eventually. Since this camera is at least 3-4 years old, that may be the culprit. And for $181, I think it's just way TOO expensive to repair. You could try and find a parts unit on eBay and see if you can swap out the batteries. You may be able to get it done on the cheap.

But I think it's just time for a new camera.

Ok, I now have more diagnostic information: my wife inadvertently dropped it into the washing machine. She fished it out right away, but is it toast? Is there a way to dry it out? Before I kill her, is there anything I might try to revive the camera?

Well, you can plug it into the AC adapter and leave it on for awhile. The camera will eventually dry out. But that does explain a great deal.

And considering the age of the camera and the performance marks it gets, I'd say it's rather serendipitous an excuse to get a new camera.
