How do you take good night photos with the DSC-T1?

I keep trying to take good night photos, but they always come out terribly. I am about to go travelling and would love to find out how I can better my camera skills before I go! thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help.

Hi, I noticed that you haven't marked any replies as the "best answer." Are you still looking for an answer?
