Hi Chris,
This problem doesn't seem to be very widespread (I can't find anything about it on the internet, anyway), so I'd suggest you contact Sony and see what they have to say about it. You can reach them at 1-800-222-7669 or email them here.
Before you do that, though, I'd try removing and re-seating the battery. You should also try to get a look inside the battery compartment and make sure that the battery contacts are clean and not corroded. Likewise, make sure that the battery looks clean and undamaged.
