How can I get rid of the background Noise in video playback on DSC-T9

Hi

Am I doing something wrong. I find on video playback there is always a lot of background noise, like wind and camera movement. I have tried adjusting the volumne when recording but this appears not to help and the noise is still there! Would really appreciate a solution.

Many thanks

G

And it probably will always be. You have to understand that a video feature in a digital still camera is a convenience marketing feature and as such, will be fairly limited to basic video functions only. No matter how long you wait, video cameras will always have the edge on a digital still camera with video option.

If video is where you're mind is, then you may want to look for a video camera that has digital still features that save to an SD card. Some are up to 6mp now. And one thing the mics have on camcorders are windscreens.

Although James' answer makes sense and I am aware that digital cameras with video will not be of the same quality as a camcorder. I have looked at peoples reviews both here and on other sites and there has never been any mention of the terrible background noise so assume I am doing something wrong. If it is the case that this terrible noise in the background is expected then I am amazed that these cameras are so popular!!! as what is the point of having the facility of sound, if the only sound you hear is the movement of the camera and a dull sound of conversation in the background!!

Anyone have any tips on a solution.

Many thanks

G

Geri, what you may want to do is reset the camera. THis is a simply procedure of either removing the batteries for about 20 minutes and reinserting them, or choosing reset in the setup/settings menu. This will restore the camera to factory settings and reload the firmware.

I'd also swing by Sony's website and see if there's a new firmware available to install. By doing these steps, you may be able to simply address the noise issue.

Thanks James but unfortunately the Sony site has nothing. How do I reset the camera. I went into setup but there is no reset button!!

I am awarding you with the two points as you have endeavoured to answer my questions and so you know you do not have to answer this one!!

Many thanks for your help

Press menu to display menu.
After pressing the > button on the control button, go to the [toolbox icon] setup setting, then press > again. Press the ^,V,<,> buttons to get to the Initialize setting (Under SETUP 1 menu, I believe.)
Select [OK]. Press O [black dot] to enter the setting. Select [OK] with ^ on the control button, then press O [black dot]. The message "Initialize all settings ready?" appears. Select [OK] with ^ on the control button, then press O [black dot]. The settings are reset to the default settings.
(pages 47,55 of the manual)

If that doesn't work, then:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Ensure the camera is not connected to an AC power adapter.
3. Remove the battery from the camera for 15 seconds.
4. Reinsert the battery.
5. Turn on the camera.
