I have had success taking photos at rock concerts with the Sony Cybershot DSC V1. It has a really good night mode as well as auto, manual and program settings so it's easy to use regardless of how well you know cameras (or don't). Crystal clear pictures in most settings, and for what it is (a $300 point and shoot) it handles dark faraway shots like concerts surprisingly well.
That camera is a few years old, so there may be a newer version available, but that's a good place to start the search.
Also, if you do like Kodaks (which are super user-friendly), the Easyshare line may be a good place for you to look. I would read through the ones linked there and check out the various reviews and see if any of those catch your eye.
