I have a sony DSC-W1. It got submerged in vitamin water.

I have a sony DSC-W1. It got submerged in vitamin water. I took the batteries off and dried it in sun , worked for a few days then started diplaying error messages on power on and ask me to turn off and and on again. I opened the camera and cleaned the rack for the zoom with alcohol. Now the camera starts ok but a dark screen is diplayed. I can however playback the old pictures. Tried turning off the LCD and taking pictures, the pictures are all black. Anybody has any experience with this problem

There's still probably alot of moisture in it. I came across this:

A Washington Post reporter who accidentally dropped his Blackberry in the toilet was able to retrieve it and dry it out to working order again: by leaving it turned off in a bowl of uncooked rice. Reader Chris writes in to say:

There's a grain of truth (punny, huh?) to this in that rice quickly sucks up the surrounding moisture. Make sure the environment is free from excess humidity, drop the wet device in a container of rice and let it sit. For a better desiccant, it'd be a good idea to store all those little silica gel packets that come in anything from shoe boxes to moisture-sensitive gadgets.

I will definitely try keeping the camera in a bowl of uncooked rice. Uptill now I have kept the camera in front of fan, left it in closed car in hot sun to dry the moisture, now I don't see the vapor on the lens too but still nothing has worked. Any body have an experience with dimantling the lens assembly and reaching the aperture/IRIS

I think you want to avoid that. Largely because unless you have experience with taking apart small items and screws, this could be a recipe for disaster.

Better to take it to a mom & pop store and get an estimate for repair. Be advised, however, that if it's out of warranty, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.

Then, after you buy a new one, you can take apart the other one and see if you can fix it yourself. If you're lucky, you'll end up with a backup camera. If not, you're no worse off than before.
