The camera turns off

Recently I'd had problem with my lens stucked open and I tried to fix it. I've opened the camera and pull the lens as I read somewhere on the net and I put the camera back together. Everything seemed fine in review mode and setup mode, the lens works properly and so on but when I change it into the taking photo mode the camera turns off with no reason. There is no error message or what so ever, it just turns off, and when I try to turn on the camera on the taking photo mode it turn off in a sec.. Anybody knows what's the problem? I think I didn't break anything while trying to fix the lens...

Well, frankly, aside from a power problem with bad batteries, you're probably looking at having a repair estimate done on it. Don't mention you took the camera apart. Just get an estimate. Rule of thumb is that if it'll cost you north of 50% to repair it, you're better off just buying a new one.

Hey Jack,
I had a similar problem with my DSC-W1, and tried everything from new batteries to replacing the lens assembly with a spare-parts camera. Found out later the problem was with my new batteries. I was using regular AA instead of rechargeable AA. Regular AA are rated at 1.5 V, total 3.0 V. Rechargeable AA are rated at 1.25 V, total 2.5 V. I guess the 0.5 V makes a difference to the camera circuitry. It would be fine it reivew mode, but when you switch to camera mode, it would stick out the lens and die (power off)! Don't know if this is your problem, but hope it helps!
