I have a corosion, and a broken battery door, should I just buy a new camera?

I've just spent the last few days trying to figure out what to do with my camera, and came across this website. I really wish Sony cared about this darn battery door enough to give folks a break and fix the thing at resonable price. ....Ok, here it goes...My camera came from Best Buy almost 4 years ago. I purchased a 4 year warranty at the time of purchase which is good til Dec 08. Three weeks ago my camera started shutting off right after turning it on. I tried recharging the batteries, even tried some brand new ones, and it still won't stay on. AND you guessed it, the battery door is also broken. Been broken for some time. Now that I can't use the camera at all, I decided to take it to Best Buy. They sent it out to their authorized repair center, and it came back unrepaired. The repair center did not contact me to tell me what the problem was. I asked what happened with the camera and the idiot best buy "geek squad" rep simply replied "nothing happened" and said that the camera had corrosion and that is not covered. After going back and forth with the guy, I ended up requesting them to send it back requesting them to give me an estimate for repair.....two weeks after that I get a call from Best Buy that my camera was ready for pick up. Instead of going there, I called and asked what did they do to fix it, and was told they never sent the camera out again to the service center to get the quote. I don't have any idea how to approach this. The warranty information does not say that corosion is not covered. Also, they didn't even fix the battery door which should have been covered.
Any suggestions? short of speaking to the manager of Best Buy, they are totally clueless....Also, can you send me the service manual? email address: goodiesbysonyea@yahoo.com

Well, if you have the warranty, I'd ask the rep where in the warranty it says that corrosion isn't covered. They may have an argument on the battery door. But if there's no mention of it in the warranty, you may have a case. I'd also get your credit card company involved as many have warranty covered as a perk of using their card.

But in the end, you have to ask yourself if it's a battle worth winning. With the age of the camera, and the average camera repair cost hovering near $200, it may not be worth the effort.
