No speed shutter is shown on screen

Hi! I have a problem that my DSC W5 doesn't show anymore the speed when I push halfdown the shutter button, just diaphragm is shown. Photos are good, and if the speed will be slow the warning signal (hand) appear, but I never know the speed that the photo will be taken. In manual mode, it doesn't work... when I try to adjust the speed (arrows up/down) the EV goes to -2 to +2, and and the speed will be 30" or 1/1000. Thanks.

First thing I would do is reset the camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.

Another tip is to go to Sony's website and look for firmware updates. Download and install them.

Thanks James, but I already initialized the camera and removing bateries but nothing... Nothing happened holding down 5 seconds the menu key. I didn't find any update for the W5. Thanks anyway.

Also check if there's a display setting. You may have inadvertently turned off the display feature for all those settings. Look in the setup menu.
