i am getting extra bright or dark photos when i click them anytime, mostly at night..i hav dsc-w5 from sony..any ideas why it is doing like that?

i have started getting extra bright or black images while taking pics from my sony dsc-w5..7 out of 10 images are affected due to this problem....please let me know why is this camera doing like this--any ideas? thanx

Gurjeet,

Make sure that you have adjusted your settings for low light pictures on your camera before taking the shot. A low light situation can cause your camera's auto settings to adjust things differently. Your Sony DSC-W5 has a setting on the dial on the top of the camera that looks like a person standing with the moon behind them. This will adjust the settings for a darker shot. Remember, this will only work if the subject of your shot is within 10-12 feet of the camera. You can also adjust the shutterspeed and aperature of your camera manually by setting the dial to "M" and experimenting. The user manual has an excellent starters guide to this on pages 11 and 30.

thanks for excellent answer. I will defintely check out the above said options. However, this problem was not before with dsc-w5...i used it and was working fine from last 8 months...thnx a lot Andrew.

It's a synchro problem between the flash ante the diafragm opening time. My w5 had this problem. it's on replacement process by Sony (no fix for the problem - they're giving me a new one -i hope-).
