It is possible for rechargeable batteries to decrease in power over time and hold less with each charge. This may be your batteries and not your camera. If you've been using the same batteries all along try a new set.

Try using Energizer Rechargeable Batteries. I've had a set for over a year, and the battery life in this camera is great! I also switch back-and-forth between using the screen, and viewing hole. Hope it helps!

Bigtuna, let me ask you the obvious questions first: were the batteries fully charged? Is there a date printed on the package (i.e. it's possible they are older than they should be)? Also, what camera are you using?

hi brenda,
thanks for replying.
the batteries charged for over 19 hours.
they're new energizer rechargeable batteries.
i'm using the dsc-w5. the reason why i bought the energizer rechargeables is because the sony rechargeables that came witht the camera started to lose its charge too quickly.
thanks.
benny

I actually had a warranty on my camera, so I brought it in and found that it needed some kind of upgrade. This fixed the problem and the camera has been working great.

Hey Benny, I wanted to let you know I did some looking around on this, and although I know this isn't helpful at all I can't find anything at all relating to what's happening. There's no reason in the slightest for your batteries to die that quickly unless there's some flaw in the batteries. Although your camera isn't under warranty, if I were you I would consider returning the new rechargeables and swapping them out for one more set. If that set, too, fails to work, then you'll know for a fact that it's a camera issue and not just a batch of bad batteries (which happens more often than you might think). At that point I would give Sony a call and see what they have to say on this. Sorry I don't have anything more insightful to say.

This problem had nothing to do with the batteries. I still use the same batteries as before the problem. It was a programming problem within the camera, that took them about an hour to fix. It may be worth it to have the camera looked at. Hope this helps

I bought the camera at Best Buy with a warranty(I never buy a warranty, but for some reason I did on this). So they are the ones that fixed it. I will try to find the paper work so that I can tell you eexactly what they fixed.

Sorry it took so long. I had to find the paperwork. this is exactly what the tech center said they did. "rewrite the new system data on camera none accessory" and also "one or more mechanical alignments were made to correct function problem". i hope this helps you.

Thanks for the looking into this. I know you had a warranty for this but did the paperwork say anything about what it would've cost to get it fixed had you not had the warranty?
Thanks!

I have had the same issue with my Sony DSC W5, using the Sony rechargeables that came with the camera and also standard AA's so it's not a battery problem. Has anyone found a solution to this?
