Memory stick pro is the type this camera needs, the largest being 2gb.

This camera can use the Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Pro Duo, High Speed Memory Stick Pro, High Speed Memory Stick Pro Duo, PSP Memory Stick, and Memory Stick Micro.

To use any Duo size (including PSP Memory Stick) or Memory Stick Micro, you will need a special adapter as the camera is designed to accept the longer media.

Memory Stick Pro is the recommended stick and has the speed required to record video at the highest setting. The largest size for this is 2 GB but the Duo version at 4 GB will also be accepted. If you don't want to use an adapter, and you can find it (it has been discontinued), the 4GB High Speed Memory Stick Pro can be used. HOWEVER, the largest single file size for shooting video is 2 GB regardless of the stick you choose.

Besides reading my manual (page 89), Sony has a nice chart at http://esupport.sony.com/EN/info/mspro-camera.html that shows Memory Stick compatibility. The chart also shows what sticks have been discontinued.

Using the standard Memory Stick is not advised as the speed is not quick enough for high resolution video.

Magic Gate versions used with this camera cannot utilize the copyright features of the stick.

Actually, I'm using a 4 Gb MS Duo on my W7 and it works very well.
If prices will go down, I'd like to buy an 8Gb ms, since I often take many pictures and many videos with the camera (and videos request a lot of memory)
