I didn't actually measure it, but I stuck the camera up to my eye and got a great image at around 5-6 inches.

I have taken sharp, clear images of subjects actually touching the lens.

depends. moving subject such as an insect, about 1cm from the subject. static subjects like a flower seem to remain clear up to about .5 of a cm.
