Low Light Warning (Shaking Hand Symbol). I keep gettting a low light warning no matter the illumination conditions, do I have something set wrong?

No matter what setting i am in or what mode i am shooting in, everytime i go to focus on the object I get the "Shakey hand" symbol, which in the manual refers to low light conditions. This makes my pictures rahter blury unless the object is completely still. I don't understand what the problem is, I have tried all sorts of different settings. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi David,

A couple of questions:

1. Does this happen when you're outdoors in full sunlight? When the camera is in auto mode?
2. If you switch to full manual and max out the shutter speed, does it happen then?

Thanks.

No, it does not happen in full sunlight.

I have not tried that. I will see what happens.

Thanks!

If it doesn't happen in full sunlight then it is almost certainly simply an issue with the (other) lighting conditions you're trying to shoot under. Most of the time, despite the shaky hand icon, you should be able to get clear shots thanks to the H5's IS system. It's there more as a warning that you should be careful than as a guarantee that your shots will be blurry.

Automatic mode should do a decent job of adjusting the camera's settings to produce clear shots, but if you find that it isn't, you can adjust the ISO (higher ISO = sharper image but higher image noise), shutter speed (higher shutter speed = sharper image but also a dimmer image) and aperture (lower aperture number aka f stop = more light getting into the lens = sharper image).

Hope this helps!

Hi there, mine is doing this as well. It's a DSC-W100 but however it takes no pictures at all and full light doesn't seem to help. The shaking hand or the upper left hand orange light at steady is all I ever get. Any help that doesn't involve taking it to back to the shop (vacation soon) would be much appreciated.
