I want a camera with rapid-fire...

I bought the A620 in July and took it on a wildlife trip. I was very disappointed that the camera didn't have a rapid-fire setting (at least I couldn't find it!). It was my first digital camera, and I hadn't realised the time delay between pressing the button and the shutter going, I presume because of the auto-focus. Otherwise I liked the camera very much. Unfortunately it was stolen in November, and I am now looking to buy a replacement. If possible, I would like somthing of a similar standard, but cheaper and with the rapid-fire option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Basically you are looking for a faster camera. One that can take snaps quickly and effectively. Most people new to digital cameras are surprised there slow reaction time. I can suggest two cameras that are a step above point and click models that have fast reaction and shutter speeds. The Sony H5 is a favorite camera for those looking for a powerful camera that is not as complex or expensive as a SLR. It is very nice machine and will certainly solve most of your issues. The Canon s3 IS is a another similar camera that is fast and high quality. You should check out the user reviews for both of these cameras and see if an interest you. To truely get the speed you are looking for a dSLR might be the only perfect solution, but that brings more money and experience into the picture and I feel that these two models have what you are looking for.

Good Luck!

Susanne, were you just looking for a faster focus/shot? Or were you referring to a burst mode? Your A620 should've had burst mode. It's in the Drive Mode menu, along with the 10 second and 2 second timers. It takes 1-10 shots in quick succession.

Also, you could always try playing around with using manual focus, so the camera doesn't have to take the extra time to try to focus. I know I find it annoying sitting there with my Canon A70, pressing the button half-way over and over again until it finally decides it can focus on something.

Hi, thanks both for your replies. I guess the technical term for what I'm looking for is "burst mode". Can you make suggestions as to which camera to buy which will give me this feature? Both the above mentioned models are still out of my price range....

You have to press 'func set' and then scroll down the left side until you get to drive mode, and then scroll to the right until you get to 'C' for continuous.

Susanne Hein, I recommend Konica Minolta Z6, may be within your budget. I am using Z3 which has excellent burst mode, macro, telephoto, autofocus. You may not be able to find this camera soon because Sony has bought over Konica Minolta's camera business. They may stop production of it because Sony has the H5. If you cannot afford Z6, get a Z3, should be cheaper by now.

You may not be able to find this camera soon because Sony has bought over Konica Minolta's camera business. They may stop production of it because Sony has the H5. If you cannot afford Z6, get a Z3, should be cheaper by now (between $200 and $250. Had to pay almost twice when it was first launched around July 2004). Difference between Z6 and Z3 are smaller screen and less pixel (6 vs 4 megapixels), otherwise more or less the same. Am content with 4 megapixel (allow to blow up to A4 size clearly). Being using Z3 for more than 2 years with no problem. Sony now provides servicing for Konica Minolta cameras. By the way, the burst mode is also complemented by a "progressive burst mode"---meaning only last 5 shots are captured when you release the shoot-button (other the burst captures continuously---something like 15 shots going off like a machine gun). Great camera for the price. Should try it. All the best.
