what are the results of large blowups 24x36 with this camera?

What kind of results do users get enlarging shots to 24x36?

Being that it's an 8.1 megapixel camera, the larger you get the more noisy and fuzzy it'll get. I'd be more comfortable with a 10+ MP for poster size. You can do it, mind you, but you may not be as thrilled with the results. With an 8.1 megapixel camera, I wouldn't go above 11x14, IMHO.

Thank you James for your prompt reply.

I have many 24x36 blowups from my old Minollta film SLR and I recently switched to the Sony ALpha, (10.1 megapixels) using all my old lenses. I get great shots and blowups, but carrying my heavy 70-300 zoom lens gets to be a pain, so I was looking for a good super zoom to help alleviate this problem. I also was considering the Olympus SP550 UZ but have read less than great reviews plus it has no manual focus - amazingly. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Well, that Alpha should perform okay. As for that heavy zoom, you may want to consider a monoPod. Most sports photographers have the same issues and they use it for the support it provides as well as the help in stability. As for the 550UZ, I've been testing it and so far have been rather pleased. It does rank in the "B" range, however, and the lack of manual ... I don't where you're getting that. I've got my SP550UZ right here and it certainly DOES have a manual feature. The SP560UZ is coming out and it has a greater MP at 8MP (which baffles me that they didn't just go from 7.1 in the 550 and just upgrade to 10, but go figure).

It does have a manual setting though.
