How does this do on a tiny object like miniatures or maybe a ant close up?

I photo many tiny objects (12 foot to the inch scale). I need to keep depth of field as well as good clear pictures. but also concerned about good telephoto for bird watching. My old Mavica FD 91 had it all but it is getting tired and needs replaced.

Frankly, the macro on this camera isn't that thrilling. Compare it with other options at this resource. It takes pictures with cameras and you can compare them side by side.

There are much better options available to you that are more affordable. Like the Canon S5IS, SONY H9, and my personal fave the Olympus SP550UZ.

J. DeRuvo, you are saying the S5IS would be a better option than the S5IS fo taking close-ups? Aren't they the same thing?

Please explain.

No, Hamilton, that isn't what I said. I said that when compared to the Fuji Z50, the S3IS (and othe rmodels) have a much better advantage.

Anita, glad you see you found the best camera for you.
