Extreme temperatures will kill your batteries pretty quickly. So you want make sure they are kept warm until just before using them. Also that cold can play havoc with your electronics, cause condensation on the lenses and a host of other things. My suggestion is to only use the camera briefly in sub zero conditions and get it back into a warm storage as soon as the shutter clicks.

You bet. Additionally, you're going to want to keep the camera itself bundled up as well until you need to use it. Exposure to extreme temperatures can cause solder points to crack and break, drastically effecting the quality of your image.
