How come when I have a panoramic print developed that I get a 2 x 10 image and not the full 4 x10 size that its printed on? Image taken in standard.

When done in wide view it is even smaller. The photo lab I took it to tells me in order to get the whole picture they have to shrink the height OR to make it larger I have to go with a huge 8 X 20 (approximate) print.
What I don't understand is they can print the total picture on all of the
4 x 10 sheet with the film camera but not this new digital panoramic.
Can you please tell me if this is what I will have to expect with my pano prints or is there a lab that can print all the picture on the 'whole' 4 x 10 (approxiate size again)sheet?
It kind of defeats the purpose of having this new feature if the panoramic view is so small or either really huge.

Yes, because there's an "effective" print/image size. As such, you end up missing parts when printing. This is largely due to lens coverage, compression, even marketing mumbo jumbo.

I know that all images the edges are cut off with digital images but I'm needing to know why only the height but not the length is compromised only in "panoramic" images? Film cameras have the capability of printing the full image. What does film camera have that digital cameras do not have when it comes to panoramic abilities?

A shutter and exposure system directly on the negative. Digital cameras expose onto an electronic chip and as such, are subject to the number of pixels and the configuration they are in.
