I actually own the W170, and love it. Resolution wise, a 10MP camera will be far more than enough for most people. You will add more noise to the image when you step up to the 13.6MP CCD on the W300. I looked into buying a W300 and clearly saw that W170's 5x optical zoom far outweighed a few more megapixels. Touchscreen cameras are nice but, some people don't like them. I would try a touchscreen camera, such as a Sony T77 or T700, in a store before buying. Some people just don't like it once they get their hands on one. Problem wise, a touchscreen camera shouldn't be more problematic than a regular camera. There is a larger screen so, you do need to be more careful about cracking the LCD. Other than that, you should be fine. The 5x zoom on the W170 is better than the extra 3.6MP you will get on the W300.
