Sony DSC W300vs Panny TZ5 vs Canon IXUS 980 IS?

I'm considering buying a new compact camera, and after a while I came across these three models. From some pictures I found on the web from the 3 cameras (dpreview, etc etc) I really do like the Sony picture, even in blind test, the W300 is typically the chosen one.

BUT - on all reviews I read people do not have that love for it. they always prefer the panny or the canon. Why is that?

What's your opinion?

The Sony has great IQ, but so do the other ones. The panasonic probably performs worst in this category, due to it's smaller sensor and bigger range lens, but it's 28-280 equiv. compensates for that. It's also a little bigger than the Canon and Sony. These two are pretty much alike. Similar zoom range (Canon: 36-133 mm, Sony: 35-105 mm), similar sensor (bigger than almost any compact, and a LOT of pixels), and about as good as it gets in terms of IQ when it comes to pocket-sized cameras.

I too have looked at the image comparisons between the Canon SD990 IS (IXUS 980 IS) and the Sony W300 and the image quality of the Sony is far superior. This contradicts the reviewers comments and warrants further comment/advice from the reviewer please.
