Sony W290 vs Canon 880 or 890 Or Other?

I currently have an old Sony. I'm going on vacation and need a new camera. I like to use different wheel settings when possible-not just point and shoot. I'm also looking for wide angle ability for outside shots. I like having "night shot" for low light conditions as well. Overall, picture quality is of most importance. A digital SLR is not in the budget right now. Please advise on best choice.

For comparison, you may want to check out this resource. It takes pictures with each and you can compare them side by side.

Personally, though, I would ordinarilly recommend avoiding SONY since they're obsessed with proprietary technologies. But since you've already bought into the Sony family and have memory cards, et all, then the W290 would be your immediate route since you can use the same cards.

However, both the SD880 and 990 have the new DIGIC IV processor and work great in low light. So it comes down to whether you want to venture into new territory or just upgrade a platform your accustomed to.
