Top-of-the-line image quality, a remarkably small body, and good performance earn the Pentax *ist D a very positive review. Relatively minor complaints include the awkward 4-way switch on the back and Pentax's decision not to include remote control software for studio artists. read original review

Low noise levels, "top-notch" performance, and easy operation make the Pentax *ist D an excellent digital SLR. On the downside, its JPEG images are very soft, though this problem can be solved by shooting in RAW mode. The *ist D's compatibility with AA batteries is a big plus. read original review
