Canon PowerShot A450
Editor's Review
The Canon PowerShot A450 is simple and won't trip you up if you want to take an easy, hassle-free photo. This tiny little shooter is great for new and beginning digital camera users, and great for travel, with its small size and use of easily replaceable AA batteries. Similar to the A460, the A450 has a 5-megapixel sensor, but a slightly (almost insignificantly so) lower optical zoom, 3.8x instead of 4x. That's still higher than what the average camera had a few months back, and shouldn't hamper your photography too much.

Canon PowerShot A450 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
Personally, I'd just upgrade my OS. Better yet, use a USB memory card reader. About $20 and you just plug in your card and it's a simple drag and drop onto your desktop. FAR easier than dealing with drivers.
This camera does have an optical viewfinder, so yes it does. Good luck and happy shooting.

I completely agree with you on that. Some new cameras do have enhanced LCD's like the Olympus 1030SW ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). It works pretty well in bright light, but I still like the insurance of an optical viewfinder.
If you feel we have addressed your issue sufficiently, please mark it best answer. If not, we would be more than happy to answer any further questions you may have. Good luck and happy shooting.

I'm confused. It sounds like Andrew's answer states that the A450 has both optical and LCD viewfinders. You seem to state that the A450 has only an LCD one.
Just to clear things up, the original question was attached to the Canon A460 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), which does have an optical and LCD viewfinder. The Canon A450 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) also has both an optical and LCD viewfinder.
The reference to the Olympus 1030SW ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) was to show that there is newer technology out regarding enhanced LCDs that perform better in bright light.

"MY WINDOWS XP HOME NO RECOGNIZES the DRIVE OF CANON POWERSHOT A450. WHAT I MUST MAKE?"
Once your PC recognizes the camera, all you need to do is drag and drop the files onto your PC. You could use the software that comes along with it, but my experience is that it is not very good and unnecessary.
In fact, with a USB Card reader, you don't even need to connect the camera. Just plug the memory card into the card reader and plug that into your PC via USB. It's read as a drive and again, drag and drop.

Usually, when trying to make a final call, it may just come down to what camera feels good in your hand. Go to a local camera store and check both out side by side, holding them, feeling their center of gravity, the balance. How it sits in your hand. That usually sells me one way or the other.
SELPHY CP720: $136.89
1GB Memory Card: $8.70
A460: $99.65
A450: $107.30
So obviously, the A460 with Selphy CP720 printer is the "best deal".......
You sure are getting what you pay for, though. Do you need the printer? Can you afford a better camera? Buying a shoe for 90% off is a great deal... but it's useless if you don't have the other shoe to make a matching pair...if you get my drift.
If this is a present for a young child as a first camera, then yes, this is a great deal. But for an adult, you may likely find yourself wanting more.
But for adults, well, we used to say that a $10 helmet is for a $10 head, if you get my drift.
As you can see here ( dpreview.com/reviews/compar... ), the two cameras are VERY similar. In fact, the only real difference is the slightly longer zoom on the A460. If you can live without the extra 0.8x zoom the A640 offers, I'd say you should just go for whichever you can find a better deal on.
Good luck!
If you have a 1 mb VGA card or higher, then you can follow the instructions below to reset your screen resolution.
Otherwise you have to buy a new VGA card.
Procedure to reset screen resolution :
Click Start (at the bottom left hand corner of Win 98)
>Select Settings
>Select Control Panel
>Select Display
>Select Settings
in the Color Field, click arrow to go down to 'High Color 16 bit'
in the Screen Area, click and move the slide to '1024 x 768'
Click OK.
This camera actually isn't on the market yet- in fact, I can't even find a definite price for it in the US. It will be coming soon, so keep checking the internet for it if you're interested in buying; prices and places to buy should be announced in the near future.
Soft Pouch
Battery charger with 2 Alkaline batteries
1 GB memory card in addl. to the 16MB card
And a holiday package worth 4000/-
If all holiday package is availed the net price comes down to 1510/-
Amazing, isnt it.
din get ne xtra holiday package or pouch though...bought a 1 gb card fr 550..
Only Windows 2000 and windows 98SE need one.
If you cannot connect A450 to Windows XP, probably something else is wrong.
One way you can try is to unplug the camera from the computer and do a reboot.
The reboot will clear all errors about the camera and you can retry by plugging the camera to the computer again.
If this does not work, then do a short cut and get a card reader instead.
Insert the memory card to the card reader and plug this to the USB port.
You can then do the downloading of photographs to the computer using copy and paste command.

i reinstall zoombrowser and nothing
I have lost my Software CD and now unable to install at Windows Vista. I need to know the web address from where I can download software for my Canon Camera A450.
The life of rechargeable batteries is measured in mAh (milliamp-hours). The latest are 2900 mAh, although 2700 is excellent as well. Anything under 2000 mAh is really too light-duty for cameras. One problem with rechargeables is that the charger is soooo 20th century. The new chargers analyze the condition of the batteries with sophisticated electronics, and adjust the current as needed. Then, when the batteries are 'full up' these new chargers will apply a little current every 10 seconds or so, to keep the batteries fully charged.
You can buy a battery kit (batts + charger) at your local discount store, but that will probably come with mediocre batteries (like 2000 mAh, or less!) and a charger that sucks. Spend $50 and get a nice setup. Check out thomas-distributing.com/ind... for great batteries and chargers.
I bought their charger---Maha C204W 18 months ago. Best money I spent in a long, long time. This charger does AA's, AAA's, has a 're-conditioning' button, has a top-off routine, works internationally on voltages from 100 to 240 automatically, will charge up to 4 batteries 'in pairs'---which means that 2 batteries can be in the charger indefinitely, while YOU ADD two depleted batteries which then start charging with a different program, etc.

Lovely camera, but with the current price of memory cards, Canon could give at least 64Mb with the camera. I am using the 128Mb that came with my Nokia 9300 and it works a treat. Very easy to use and takes excellent photos. Thanks, Canon, as usual you have produced a superb product.

I have bee using the camera for past 1 month. I am very much impressed with the picture quality. Video quality is Ok with sound. Simple and good software. Not too much options and jargon. U will not require a manual to use the camera. Good battery backup. I have been using the battery which came with the camera. I am still using those batteries after series of some 100 image shoots and a few video shoots. The camera is good choice in the price range 7000 to 10,000 Rupees(INR). I bought it for 7500 INR. I got a pouch, rechargeable battery, battery charger and 1 GB memory card as compliments.

As a first time camera owner this is very user friendly model, great take anywhere or reserve camera for when I get further into this newfound hobby of digital photography. A larger capacity SD card would have been nice but AUD $40.00 I upgraded to 1GB SD card. 3.2X optical is great I do not know if it worth the extra cash for a 4x optical zoom on the A460 model or spending your cash on more batteries, SD card upgrade etc.
