Canon PowerShot SD40
Editor's Review
The Canon PowerShot SD40 is intended as a small, pocket camera for photographers who would rather not worry about a big, bulky camera as they hit the town. The SD40 also comes in four fun colors: precious rose, noble blue, twilight sepia, and olive gray (or red, blue, black-ish, and silvery). It's got a nice 7.1 megapixel sensor, great for such a tiny little camera, but an underpowered 2.4x digital zoom, probably figuring that photos taken with this camera will be of the party-closeup variety. $350 seems a little steep for this kind of camera, though, and DCHQ suggests shopping around a bit before deciding on this little party favor.

Canon PowerShot SD40 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
everywhere i have seen the articles that it has
a very picture quality.but i am not finding that way.
may be something wrong in my setting.
What is the perfect setting for a perfect picture.
Andrew
If you like the Canon's, the Canon SD40 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) would be a good choice. The high ISO range of 80-1600 is great for high to low light settings. It is also very portable at 3.78 x 1.78 x .94 inches, so it fits easily in a pocket or purse. I would say it lacks in optical zoom though (2.4x). If you're not trying to get very close photos, this is a camera for you.
If you don't want to sacrifice the zoom capabilities, the Canon A710 IS ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) with 6x optical zoom is the choice for you. Its still portable and has a respectable ISO range of 80-800 (1600 lets twice as much light in as 800 for brigther pictures in lower light). That lacking would be made up with the image stabilization function in the camera.
Both cameras are around $230, so fit right into your budget.

As long as you're mainly interested in shooting wide angle shots (not a lot of zoom) you'll be fine with the SD40. It takes great shots, has plenty of resolution and performs well in a variety of environments. The one downside it has in terms of shooting outdoors shots is that it only has a 2.4x optical zoom--you won't be able to get close up shots of things that are very far away (mountains, ships on the ocean, etc). You can see a sample gallery of SD40 shots here ( steves-digicams.com/2006_re... ).
Out of curiosity, which Fuji camera is your dad considering? I'd be able to give you a better opinion if I knew that.
Thanks!

Green seems to be a pretty rare color for digital cameras, even among the few models that come in colors other than silver/black/white. The only decent camera I can think of that comes in green is the now-discontinued Canon A400. It's pretty bare-bones compared to most cameras on the market these days: 3 megapixels, 2x optical zoom, and a 1.5" LCD screen. You'll only be able to find it used or new from individual sellers these days (places like eBay or Amazon's marketplace). It's going for $179 right now at Amazon ( amazon.com/gp/product/B0002... ).
The newer Canon SD40 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) comes in several colors, including, and I quote, "Denim Blue, Steel Grey, Sepia and Sizzling Pink". It's much more up-to-date, with 7 megapixels, 2.5x optical zoom, and a close to 2" LCD screen. It retails for around $250.
Maybe someone else knows of one I'm not remembering, but that's all I've got. Good luck!
The Sony T10 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) is a great choice. If you like that, you might want to look at the Panasonic FX50 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), the Canon SD40 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), the Panasonic FX07 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), and the Sony W100 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). All have very similar capabilities and are priced the same or lower than the Sony T10 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ). I would recommend going in to a retailer and holding the cameras to see what you're comfortable with in your hand before purchasing. This will ensure a good fit for you.

I noticed you haven't marked a "Best Answer"... are you still in need of help? If so, I recommend re-submitting your question at digitalcamera-hq.com so it has a better chance of being noticed. Lately questions are being answered within just a day or two. Good luck!
You can shoot movies for 1 min. at 60 fps when in 320 x 240 mode and 3 min. at 15 fps in 160 x 120 mode.

What price range are you looking for?
The idea "very good zoom" means different things to different people. For example the Canon Powershot S3 IS ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) came to mind as I was reading your question (that might be a good one to check out), but 12x zoom may be rather heavy-duty for your needs. It also makes the camera bulkier. It does have good battery life and a good movie mode, though. Is that the kind of camera you are thinking of or did you have something different in mind?
Thanks for pointing out things that I should have inculded in the question...
Ideally, the price range I`m looking for is below $300. But if I find a camera that is worth it, I`d be willing to pay more.
As for the "very good zoom," I have been through the entire DC-hq website and could not find a zoom other than 4, 6 or 12x. I was wondering if someone else would know more about it, or if someone could point out that there are no other zooms.
I was considering the Canon S3 IS for a while, yet I find it looks more like a professional camera (i.e. too bulky). I am currently looking into the A710 IS, since Canon PowerShot A-series are the kind of cameras I am interested in.
The A710 IS ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) may be a good choice for you, but the one caveat is that it can only hold 1GB of movie which is about 8 minutes' worth depending on what resolution you're at.
The SD800 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) has 4GB of movie storage and is another one you should consider- it does have a wide angle lens, but some people really like that. It also has fewer manual controls, so if you like to adjust aperture, focus etc. you may want to look elsewhere. The A710 allows you to manually set everything but focus, I believe.

It all depends on how much you are willing to spend to be able to save your memories forever.

I like this camera. I have the pink version my favourite colour. Its decent for mediocre pictures. But the I am fair skin, brown eyes blond hair and about 90% of the pictures of me I do have red eye, the red eye reduction on this camera is pretty much non-existent because the flash is too close to the lens.

Very convenient small camera, but the weak flash is a limiting factor. It has resulted in many disappointing photos. The LCD screen is not accurate, so I don't always realize that subjects are underexposed until I get home, and it is too late to take another shot. Very reliable otherwise, though reading the instruction manual and practicing functions was necessary for me, even though I have used and owned numerous digital cameras.

Love the size and quality of pictures. It looks great and takes some great shots even with a less than desirable zoom. I love to take it on trips because it is so compact and looks sharp. Video capability is also a great side benefit.
I recommend to my friends.

I went from a non-digital one to an awesome camera that can do almost anything!

I would say this is one of the best cameras that i have ever owned. I am always using it and it works great for me. There are a few things that could be better and that's why I only gave it four stars. Then again, any product you buy can always be better. The red eye is only shown in about 15 pictures out of the over 1,000 pictures I have taken already. Obviously this is a small camera and therefore this camera's flash does not reach very far, i would say about 8 feet. When you take a picture the flash only is focused on the object that you are locked onto and the background is not the best quality. Although, when the flash does reach the object, the quality of picture is awesome. It takes pictures at 3072 x 2304, but I only use the 2048 x 1536 because the higher resolution the bigger the picture file. Only comes with a 16mb SD card so it is best to buy a 1gig or higher. I love the fact that this camera is small and very lightweight. Very convenient for going places and not having to carry around a huge camera in your pocket or on your belt loop. Most people don't even know that I have a camera and when I take it out everybody is surprised that the camera is so small and very stylish. Great for pictures where plenty of light is available, outside is best although, inside is very reasonable. Overall I love this camera and after reading a bunch of bad reviews about it, I was a little skeptic. I didn't want to take the risk, but I got a great deal on it for about 200 dollars, so I took the risk and I have been very pleased. Has a lot of great features like, photo stitch assistant which allows you to take a panoramic view for up to 30 pictures. The stitch assistant shows the picture you just took next to the picture your about to take so you line it all up. You can also take wide screen photos with this camera and they are superior quality. Canon did A really good job with this camera. I love it and this camera makes up for all of the little problems with it's great features. If you are a professional photographer then this camera is not for, but then again if you are a photographer then you should be spending over a thousand dollars on a camera anyways. This camera is for the average Joe who does not care about the little things. For some odd reason the video quality is really good and the video length is as long as much as your memory card can hold. Was not expecting a video camera out of this because i have my own camcorder, but sufficient if i don't have my camcorder on me. I love this camera.

This is a great little camera small and prefectly formed. Excellant for snaps and short movies but you can get great quality images if you need them.
