Fuji FinePix A205

Editor's Review

The Fuji FinePix A205 offers a low price, simple controls, and compatibility with Fuji's optional camera docking cradle. While its 2-megapixel resolution will not allow for printing much larger than postcard size, the A205 should appeal to shoppers in search of a reasonably-priced camera for casual snapshots.

Good starter camera (Erich — 05/12/2007)

Owned the A205 for three years. It's been rock-solid until about 2 weeks ago. It froze after taking a picture. It also started eating batteries like you wouldn't believe.

Don't let that sway you though. It's taken many thousands of great looking pictures. For the price, it's hard to beat. Highly recommended. Only real drawbacks are that it's only 2MP, it has a bit of trouble shooting video unless the subject is well lit, and no sound on videos.

Get this camera if you want one that just works and is simple to use.

A205 (Scarlotte Noles — 12/26/2006)

I have had no problems with this camera. I have really enjoyed having and using it, it takes great pictures that we download and print from our computer.

Focus Error (Randy — 10/03/2006)

Broke suddenly. Never abused. Crapped out for no reason. What ever happened to quality. 3 years is okay but c'mon, it was treated like gold and wasn't dropped or overused.

Great First Camera (Kyle — 09/23/2006)

It was worth it for the price. I have dropped this camera multiple times and it still works fine. I have since bought a more expensive 5 megapixel camera, but I still use this camera at times because it's more durable. The shots are great indoors and outdoors. My only complaints are that it goes through batteries very quickly and you cant see the viewer in the sun.

Never better (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I bought this when it first came out. I'm no pro & wanted an auto-focus. It's easy to figure out. I bought extra memory, a card reader, & rechargable batteries for more juice & can take hundreds of pics. Batteries can recharge quickly & I'm good to go again. I snap the memory card out & it throws everything to I-Photo (on a Mac) just great. If I want focus I use flash, but no flash & a steady hand indoors makes for a nice artistic blur. Also does really great without the flash in mixed lighting (ex: dark room with a light beam.)

Even great pictures in pitch dark (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I've only had this camera for a few days, but the pictures that I've been able to take were incredible. My first digital purchase, and it was used! I have nothing bad to say about it....It's great!

Excellent for eBay (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I use this camera for eBay pictures and it is fabulous for that purpose. The camera was relatively inexpensive and is awesome!

Excellent - movie mode caught lightning! (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

1600x1200 max res gets alot more than a post card sized photo! Love the picture quality, movie mode caught lightning! I get 33 max pics at max resolution on 16mb card, not 25. It really eats batteries, NimH rechargeable batteries are good.Good price for $100

It's alright (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

It is my first digital camera but I have had for less than a year it and I don't like it. You can't see the screen when you are in the sun, it really big and doesn't fit in anything, and it is ugly. For my nest camera I am thinking of going for the Sony Cybershot T9. NOw that a good camera.

Use this camera OFTEN and its never let me down! (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Great...I'm an amatuer model and have to take photosets often and this camera has never let me down...have had no problems and always high quality images!
I use it as a webcam(PCcamera) also and the video stream quality is better than my Creative or Logitech cams!

Good for 1st digital camera purchase (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This camera is only good for still shots and with using the flash. The lag time with pushing the button and actually getting the pic is terrible. The pictures w/o the flash are just as bad. They are blurry w/o the the flash. Good for taking pictures for ebay and of my kids, grandbabies. Otherwise, spend more and get something better.

Excellent starter camera (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

The FinePix A205 is a great camera for first time digital camera buyers. There are a few problems, such as the lag time between pushing the button & the actual picture being taken and, the battery killing LCD screen. (NOTE... Don't even bother using cheap store brand batteries)but, for the price, picture quality, the various modes & included accessories, you can't do much better.

Only Indoors ? (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Not a bad camera for indoor shots - most of the time. Erratic quality pix. Terrible, terrible outdoors.

good for the price (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Very easy use. Usually used optical viewfinder rather than LCD. The camera has a few seconds of lag in some functions. Pictures came out very clear. LCD is not too big and well protected and lens has sliding cover so can take some abuse. I tossed it around and stuffed it in luggage without problems. However its fairly round and thick, I put it down on a handrail and it rolled off which seems to have broken the CCD. Gave me a reason to upgrade to Fuji F10 for smaller camera with better macro and night shots.

hmmmm (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

It's a good camera if you're really into photography, but it eats up batteries.

Don't like it (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Takes terrable, blury action shots. Eats up batteries FAST. Takes too long to take picture after you hold the button down. It was fine for the first year, but then I got into taking action-type shots, and it just isn't working. I must say, it's held up nicley! I've had ot for 2 1/2 years, and it's been dropped and everything else, but it still works like it always has!

Fine at first but dies fast (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I've had this camera for a year and a half. I was somewhat pleased at first although it has a horrible digital zoom and the "red-eye reduction" doesn't work well. But after having it for such a short time the camera basically died. It doesn't take anything but blurry pictures. I am VERY disappointed. I would never suggest this camera to anyone.

Hate this camera (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This camera was a big disappointment to me. I'd get about 2 pictures and then have to change batteries. There is no such thing as a clear picture. Bought to take pics for Ebay. Took all day just to take acceptable photos. Usage is very difficult to understand. Lighting was impossible being either too light or too dark always. Now camera doesn't work at all with a grey screen with black lines being all I get. No online help that I can find. Will purchase from different manufacturer next time for sure.

Great camera at a great price (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

From the Grand Canyon to Ireland, this camera has done a amazing job for me. The software that comes with it (fine pix viewer) is great and easy to use. I highly recommend this product.

Takes great pictures but (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Takes great pictures but suddenly exhibited zoom error on screen and would no longer function. After checking on line I found this is not uncommon. Some cameras had been repaired with mixed results from owners. I never abused this camera so I think it was just an internal flaw. I am buying another digital but not a Fuji.

Pretty good camera (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This is a pretty good camera for the price. Pictures come out clear. Though I have to take several shots in different areas in order to be sure my subject is getting enough light. My next camera will be a Fuji, but with more light options and pixels. But great first camera!

This camera can take it (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

My FinePix A205 was left outside in a light rain overnight and still worked! It has also been dropped 11 feet in its case on to rocks. The picture quality is great and I would recommend this to any one who is looking for an inexpensive good quality camera.

excellent camera for the money (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I got this camera as a cheap backup to my Olympus c4000 so I could just throw it in my pocket and not worry about. To my surprise the pictures are actually clearer than the Olympus. It doesn't do as well as the Olympus in darker places because it only has an iso of 100 but still is satisfactory. The batteries also last just as long even though it uses only 2 of them. I have no complaints with this camera and if I would have know how good a camera it was I wouldn't have bought the Olympus for 4 times the money.

I like the fact that the pictures are crystal clear (anonymous — 07/18/2006)
I like the fact that the pictures are crystal clear quality on still shots. The zoom is excellent. Definitely buy the extra card, I purchased the 64mb card and it houses 110 pics on high resolution. Hooks to computer and downloads very easily. The only downside that I found was that moving subjects are not easy to get shots of on this camera. Overall it is the best camera that I have purchased in a very long time.
