Fuji FinePix A600
Editor's Review
The Fuji FinePix A600 takes entry level to a higher level with a strong 6 megapixel CCD and large 2.4 inch LCD screen. The Fuji A600 is a solid point-and-shoot camera, with all the standard elements that make a good entry-level digital camera. The 6 megapixel sensor allows for larger and higher-quality digital prints and the 2.4 inch LCD is pretty good for a camera of this class. It's not an ultra compact, but it's pretty close, and the attractive silver casing tries to keep itself as inconspicuous as possible.

Plug this reader to the USB port of a computer, together with the card, and you will be able to see it as a new drive.
Click this drive and all your pictures will appear. You may now copy them to a folder in the computer, and view the pictures with a free viewer downloaded from the internet.
You may also simplify the whole process by installing the free viewer called Picasa. This software will detect the picture files in the card reader and ' offered ', without being asked, to copy them to the computer for you.
- the owner's manual said to turn it off and on again and that does not work either
Good luck.
Terrible.only used for 1.5 years and the warrenty is for one year. This is made in China? this is the problem with Chinese products.I should have gone for a Japanese one?
Can anybody help me to find the Singaporean Agent to buy this part at a cheaper rate?
Tks
Don't bother to repair the ' old ' one at that price unless you have special reasons to do so.
On the other hand, one wonders whether it is true that when a camera doesn't switch on, the CCD and the board is damaged. Ask a camera repair shop and probably you will get a different opinion.
The service plan really saved me big time and picked up where FUJI warrenty fell short. Words of wisdom.... get the extended service plan. It's worth every penny when all fails an for $10.00 a year?!!! It's a no brainer. BEST BUY and THE GEEK SQUAD, I applaud you!
Your case is not common and is probably caused by insufficient charge initially.
What I normally do to a new set of rechargeable battery is to give it a slow charge of 8 hours in a normal charger. Apparently some people believe the full charge is only achieved after the power is used up and the batteries are given another treatment of slow charge.
Give it a try because new rechargeable batteries should be OK and seldom give problems.
Some PC computer games (coupled with expen$ive video cards) produce 60 fps.

To answer the flash question, you can take pics in the dark with this camera, but depending on subject matter, your range for the flash will be limited in and about the 15' area. If you are taking photos of people, there will be a higher likelihood of red-eye even with red-eye settings because the pupil opens in darker situations and will allow more light in and potentially more red-eye. The pre-flash will help, but I have not had great experiences using on-camera flash in darker situations.
Thankfully, Metz and other flash manufacturers make slave flashes and off camera flashes that will allow you to rectify this problem.
I think for the price range (app 119.00) this camera can't be expected to perform wonders, but will allow you to shoot as you have requested.
Or do you mean you want to know that the CCD (the piece that actually makes the digital picture) is 1 inch tall by 1.7 inch long and that would be 1.9 inch diagonal receiver or just about 50 mm?
I noticed you haven't marked a response as "Best Answer" yet. Are you still looking for help? If so, I recommend re-submitting your question at digitalcamera-hq.com so it has a better chance of being noticed. Lately it looks like questions are being answered within one or two days. Good luck!
If you want to see the date on the image itself, that would most likely be a setting on the camera you need to adjust before you take the picture.
If you want to print directly to the printer, see the instructions in the manual on page 78 -- you can use the same USB cable if your printer has PictBridge support, which I think it does.

I don't like this camera because it is extremely hard on batteries for a point and shoot. It is too sensitive...I'm unable to take clear pictures because breathing makes the pics fuzzy. Takes too long between pictures. No view finder is really annoying when it comes to taking pictures in a darker area. When I zoom in as much as possible it's still taking it from my actual distance.

This is a very good camera for the price, however the battery life may be the only problem. I had new batteries, and they ran out rathery quickly. Some of the users of this camera needs to have a view finder, I dont feel the need to have a view finder, but having one would definately save on battery life. Scale from 1-10 I give it a 8.0,mainly because of price I paid 99.00 brnad new!

1) use a tripod under anything but ideal lighting
2) bring extra batteries
3) DOING THIS WILL LIKELY VOID ANY REMAINING WARRANTY, but may enable you to take pics. If you get the
"Zoom Error", (lens will probably have retracted): Turn the
camera off and back on, grab lens and apply pulling force (so it doesn't retract with zoom error). Then, operate the zoom lever up and down a bit. Finally, depress shutter button halfway (autofocus). This may clear the zoom error. It may also PERMANENTLY DAMAGE THE CAMERA.

Takes good pictures, but the automatic lens often has a "LENS ERROR" and won't work. You have to learn how to force the lens to stay out and work for you after you start getting lens errors. There really is no way to fix it yourself.

Overall I found this camera to be a waste of money.
First, there is no optical viewer, so you are forced to use the LCD screen.
The video is limited to 180 second time limits, (on the lowest setting)
Pictures are great if you use a tripod, otherwise, chances are, most of them will be blurred.
The 2 AA battery life for this camera is a joke. Using new energizer batteries, you will be lucky to get 2-3 dozen pictures, while the camera is on battery save mode.
Overall, my rating for this camera is "I wish I had my money back"

This is the second Fuji we've owned. Never had a problem like this with the first one. Desire to upgrade some features and former experience gave us confidence to buy another Fuji. I know one shouldn't be turned off while plugged in until proper disonnection has been completed However, I was looking at my screen of dowloaded photos and momentarily forgot my camera was still on. Next thing I know, my camera does an auto shutoff. Now I knew there was a chance that my photos (on the card) might be lost, however remote. But, not only did that happen, my card was unusable. The camera screen message was that the card was not formatted. We went to the place we bought it and Geeks on Call could not tell us anything except that our card was no longer usable——1 gig of card. Not pleased.Later we went to another store in the chain and they couldn't help either. However, my husband, a DP professional, spent considerable time and did figure out how to recover the "damaged" card. Despite great photos and ease of use I would not buy another Fuji. My son, another DP professional, owns a Canon. Said he could not believe any camera would do this. This repeated later with a smaller card we own.

I have gotten the camera for xmas and so far it was a good buy.I am still learning about the camera. The book was some help, but, I am the type of person that has to learn on my own by playing with it. It is a easy camera to learn from and to get adjust to. I took it to the dealer that I have purchased it from [the source] and he couldn't get over how plain the pictures were and how clear they are on the screen on back of the camera. The only batteries that I use is the rechargeable ones, they last a bit longer[lithium batteries].I have also purchased a Fuji 256 Memory Card and it also works well. Over all I think that I made a good buy.

The A600 seems like a very good camera. Some of the features are great. (new digital camera user) It's an excellent buy for the money.
note: the rating might even be higher after using it over the next few weeks.

The camera I had before this was basically a 4 year old version of this new A600 at only 2 MP(A205s). Friends were continuously amazed at the quality of the previous 2 MP when they were all using newer 4MP cameras. So when it came to an upgrade it was a no brainer. Exellent value for maoney and great for inexperienced users. Best left on Auto mode for most photos. Though I would recommend sports mode for the kids when playing or doing sports outdoors. Landscape mode was not worth using. Lack of USB2.0 the only down side, but can be overcome by buying a external xd-usb 2.0 reader. The new A700 is more expensive and only differers - so i believe - in the megapixel depatment. Hardly worth paying extra for. The kids are now using the A205s!

I bought this camera six months ago and its just what I needed. Prior to this camera I owned two other digital cameras, a Cannon 2MP and a Fuji. This camera has all the features that I need. Its small, 6MP's, loaded with features, and the price is right too. This camera takes better pictures than the so called higher level cameras. There are pros and cons of course but the pros out weigh the cons. I think you will be very happy with this camera provided that you are not a professional.

I recently took a cruise to the Bahamas. I was surprised at how sharp and clear my outdoor pics are. The colors are so crisp. It really picked up the different shades of blue in the water. Because I'm just learning how to use the camera and I was on a rocking boat, some of the indoor pics were blurry. I need more practice for my indoor pics to be as good as my outdoor pics. I went through AA batteries fairly quickly. The camera fit in my pocket. It has a sleek design. I agree with the previous review...buy a memory card. One good thing, Fuji memory cards are less expensive than most brands. Overall I'm very happy with this camera.

This camera is great - takes great photos - just make sure you buy lithium batteries - they last about 4 months, where regular batteries last a few hours. Also make sure to get a memory card!!

The lack of a viewfinder makes low light photography almost impossibe. Battery life is very short because of the use of lcd for composition and focus, 2 nimh fully charged rechargables @ 2500 mAh nets 34 pictures and 3 1min video clips. Four batteries in 5 hours at kids birthday party

i have only owned it for a few days i owned a nykon before the nykon was easier to use but the fuji takes awsome pics and its pretty compact and very good price i do worry about how long this camra will last because of the price but it does feel well built and only 12megs internal memory at high settings it only holds 3 pics so get a card when you buy it
