Fine pix (walli — 05/06/2013)
Yes I have this one.
it makes good photographs altough the 12mpix are useless with this small lens. HD video is Superb, just need a huge SD card; 16GB will do fine. I should test it with my 32GB dunnow if that works with this camera.

The firmware 1.02 is very important for the Fuji AV100. Its purpose is to ELIMINATE the Picture Freezing while recording in HD in sunny areas. I made this update years ago and the problem disappeared once and for all .

i feel like the companies today really dont care about how long something will last
as people just throw it away and get another one.not like when i grew up in the 30s,40s,and 50s we bought for the product to last i am 81 and every time i want to use the camera,i have to put batteries in it.now i take them out as if i leave them overnight, there is no charge in them

Date & Time Stamp (Sassy Ghreiz — 12/11/2012)
Actually you can put a date and time stamp but its different from other cameras
you just have to set the date and time, and then in the (disp) display you have to make the "information on". there you have the date and time and all the other display in your picture, not the same as other camera with the date and time only though :)

It's not the memory card (lacie30 — 05/24/2011)
I have a Finepix AX200 I use a Kingstone SDHC 8GB Class 4 memorycard. It often freezes at HD video recording. In official service of Fuji they updated the firmwire. It is version 2.0 (you can not download it from the net) What happened? Nothing. It freezes again. And I lose some of recordings with "read error" message...

It may need repair. I know you're not thrilled with that notion, but if you've properly installed the firmware update designed to address the issue and it perists, then you're only other option is to either just record in SD (which is unacceptable) or turning it in for repair.
Here's something though - have you tried to replicate the issue with another card? If it still happens, it's definitely the camera. But if not, then you've just got a faulty card, which can happen.

I recieved this camera as a Christmas present, used it a few times & now its gone & broken on me. I replaced the betteries with fresh new ones & it still won't turn on. I am so angry! Any suggestions? Or is the camera gone for good?
reply to this comment
by James DeRuvo (05/13/2011)
Difficult to say without more details. If it's just not turning on, it may be that the contacts are dirty. Try cleaning them with a small pencil eraser. Also, make sure you're using the recommended battery types. If you use something that the camera wasn't designed for, you'll have performance issues. Outside of that, it may require repair. Fortunately, if you got it for Christmas, you're still in the 1 year warranty period. Send it in for a repair.
Now, if you dropped it, most warranties won't cover impact damage. But I'd send it in for an estimate at least. Then you can make an informed decision.

Okay. Your camera's video recording is only limited by how large a card it can support, but there may also be an arbitrary limit on how long each individual clip is.

Even if there's a preset for it, you're way better off shooting in color and then converting it to black and white in software. The camera images in color and then strips the color as it processes after the fact. But you have no control over shadows or contrast that way. Way better to use Photoshop Elements or some other photo editor to adjust it to your liking.

It usesa program called EXIF print to print images w the date, or via a PICTBridge compatible printer that prin the same EXIF date data w out a computer. As for saving it w the date onthe image, that may be in the EXIF print utility.

Thanks for sharing. The thing about firmware is that it's only as current as the day the camera was built. So it's always a good idea to check for updates which addresses bugs found over time.

Your card may be failing, or the contacts may simply be coating with skin oil making it difficult to read. Gently wipe the gold-colored contact surfaces on the recording media with a soft cloth and then try again.
If that doesn't work, try another card. Reset it first. Absent that, a repair may be necessary.

Help! (Angeleyes749 — 07/06/2010)
Hi,I saw this camera in the store today, and was really considering buying it.I see some bad and some good about it here-I need an everyday camera to take pics of my kids and such.Im not sure whether this would be a decent camera now after reading all of the comments. Can someone please help me out and let me know if this is really worth it? I know it is supposed to be unbiased, but I cant afford much more than $100 for a camera right now,and we are leaving to go on vacation in a few days so I need to find one.Is it ok to ask which camera would be a great choice for $100? Im somewhat camera savy, but not too techy,so I would need something that isnt too complicated, yet is around $100,can anyone please help me? Im not so sure I want to buy this camera now, after all I've read...so which is the best for this price?
reply to this comment
Liam McCabe (07/06/2010)
If $100 is all that you've got, then this is about the best you can do. Personally, I wouldn't buy a $100 camera, I'd save up for a better one, but if you need one right away, then you're kind of in a tight spot.
Maybe check around in the Amazon marketplace for an older camera (maybe a Nikon L19 or L20, I know those are really cheap these days) but you'll have to get it rush shipped to make it in time for vacation.

I understand what you're saying, but as the editor of this site, it's literally my job to stay informed about these cameras, and I can say with some authority that you'll have some difficulty getting great shots a fair amount of the time with a $100 camera. If it's all your budget can handle, go for it, but you get what you pay for when it comes to cameras. Thanks for reading.

You could clean your battery contacts. They can get dirty from dust and skin oil. This can also occur if you're using underpowered batteries as well. These days, just running basic AAs or even alkalines won't provide the power needed for camera performance. You really need to use batteries with an "mAh" of at least 2500.

Note Volts is not a good indication of battery ability to deliver power. Also tried new Duracell, tested OK Voltage is higher, camera informed using Alkaline etc. Card is a Transcend Class 10, 20 megabits. Replacement camera locks up after 2 to 3 seconds. returned it. If it's frozen, that's a crash issue. It may be that you're not using a fast enough memory card. Get the fastest you can afford. I'd also update the firmware if there's an update available.

I haven't tried it, but I mean...$100 cameras rarely turn out crisp photos. If it was a rare model that did, I'm sure I would've heard some chatter about it by now. Sorry, but I think you'll have to invest a bit more if you want great shots.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA! (Disgruntled Consumer — 04/28/2010)
Yesterday, I bought the fujifilm finepix av100. Today, I took it outside to try out the 720p video feature. I was able to record for about a minute when the camera froze up and would not respond to any button pressing. I had to remove the batteries to get it to turn off. The lens was still extended, until I put the batteries back in and turned it on. I made an attempt to view the, supposedly recorded, video and got a read error message. I would not recommend this camera to anyone who values this feature. As this is the primary feature I am interested in, I would have to say that this model failed miserably. I will be promptly returning this piece of junk.

It`s better to check what kind SD card you use for HD movie. To shoot HD movie, you need at least CLASS 4 or greater. For class 2 SD card, you will have problem like that, but, if you only take photo, class 2 will be fine.

Fixing hand first (Ruslan — 07/27/2010)
Hi man, fix your brain first. read the manual before inserting the dick into somewhere. I use Kingston 2 Gb SDHC and it worked perfectly. But honestly this is not the best ever HD camera I have ever seen

I chose to read the comments to find how owners or potential owners feel about the Fuji FinePix AV100 and no to experience ignorance and vulgarity. Thank you.

RESONE from BANGLADESH (ENGINE CADET — 09/02/2010)
first of all i don't have this camera but i have used it for some times. then i fell the problem of this camera. i think first of all the processor of this camera ! this not for HD video or battery is not perfect for the processor. then its memory card writer is not perfect for all types of memory card, its power management IC is not so intelligent, and firmware is not good and last of all this is made in china. my best comments is that FUJI lost their fame for release this camera.

No. And if there was one it would be so limited and deliver such poor results you'd wish you saved a few months longer. There are a few just under and just over $100 though.

I recently bought the FINEPIX AV 100 and so far it's been great .... the fact that you can take HD videos is also real cool ..... all in all, for $89 I assure you it's a great catch :)

Freezer
(justin lee — 08/31/2010)
The camera freezes in bright outdoor settings. also the butten works every other click to record/take a pic. this camera is very unreliable.

Very happy to carry in pocket or handbag
(Mon — 05/28/2010)
I only bought this camera to carry in my pocket or handbag for those days when I don't want to carry my large Canon Digital SLR. around. I love it. Takes good shots in low level lighting & without a flash. I think the quality of the pics is very good considering the price. I did not expect this little gem to be as good as it is. For what I want it is excellent. It is also getting more difficult to find a camera that uses AA batteries. This makes it a truly handy travellers camera great for those holiday shots you may otherwise miss out on. I tend to loose battery chargers or leave them at home. With AA batteries, you can get replacements cheaply just about anywhere.

Absolutely worthy of your money

I have Fuji finepix 4700 9 years ago and Fuji finepix f20 3 years ago, and yesterday, I got my 3ed finepix AV110 (same as AV100, except blue body color). After test shots, I`m very satisfied the effects that this camera have. The picture quality was good, especially with lower ISOs(ISO100-400): lower picture noises; and bright outdoor colors (use P model with -1/3 exposure); reasonable sharpness; nice skin tone. The most remarkable feature is HD (720p) movie. It recorded very nice picture quality movie with very little noise. But, sound recorded wasn`t that good. Anyway, with $89CND, what do you expected?
