Battery life is rated at 230 shots. But I'd discount that by about 20% as it's under controlled conditions. Your mileage may vary. I doubt you have anything defective. I'd suggest Charging your batteries overnight. Deplete it completely. Recharge overnight. Deplete. Then you should get max capacity. I'd also make sure your batteries have an "mAh" of at least 2500.

Software JZ500! (John Pettitt — 05/05/2010)
I like the camera with a big 10x zoom including a 28mm wideangle and HD video BUT when I loaded the software and rebooted it locked me out of my computer asking for a non-existent password. I had to spend $55 in the computer retail outlet to be able to boot up again. I have vista business. Has anyone else had this problem?

Fuji makes a pretty good camera line. Most people I talk to are quite happy with their cameras and the color quality they provide. But be advised that if a camera maker stuffs 20% more megapixels onto a CCD without a corresponding increase in the CCD size, then you end up with a camera that is less sensitive to light, not more, and that equates to more noise in low light conditions.
But I rather like the pet detection feature.
