Fujifilm FinePix Z800EXR
Editor's Review
The Z800EXR is a modest update to the very recent Z700EXR, released earlier this year. At first glance, there's not a whole lot of difference between the two. On closer inspection, there's a big difference: phase-detection autofocus for dSLR-like focus speeds. It's a feature that's basically unheard of on a compact camera, and definitely one to get excited about. There's also Fujifilm's solid EXR sensor, which should improve low-light performance, rounded out with HD video, a 5x, a run-of-the-mill lens, and a stylish body.

Fujifilm FinePix Z800EXR Comments & Questions (write your own!)
The logical step up from the Fuji models is something like the Canon S95 or Panasonic LX5, but those are pricey compared to this. Not really sure which would capture the colors to your liking -- artists have a much more sensitive eye to that than I do, so you're on your own there. But it sounds like you want something with a big sensor for a low price, and the Z800EXR is the lowest-cost model that fits that description, you should be alright.
studio lighting would be warm to med. cold almost hyper daylight.
And other EXR models I've seen have dark, washed out flash shots indoors. I think you can do better. Check out the SX series from Canon or the Panasonics.
