HP Photosmart R967

Editor's Review

The HP Photosmart R967 is another brand new 10 megapixel camera, proving that there's no limit to how high the smallest digital cameras can go. The R967 features a durable, metallic body that will fit easily in the palm of your hand. The R967 also has a stunning 3.0-inch LCD display, for high-resolution previews of your 10 megapixel photos. Perhaps the most unusual feature of the R967 is HP's alleged "slimming" technology, which can modify images in the camera to give subjects a skinnier appearance. It's a unique offering, and though it may help people look better in their photos, DCHQ strongly suggests a balanced diet and regular exercise for best-quality results.

Bad Camera and Expensive (Linda — 11/23/2009)

The charging dock died and we were told by HP customer support that HP does sell just the charging dock....seriously? So, we have a camera and no way to charge it and now totally useless. All we can do is buy a new camera. We will never buy another HP product!

Too much hype for the money (Angel Rosales — 03/31/2007)

You can get a much cheaper camera for 199 or less that can do almost all of the same features. The ones you pay the extra 150 for are really hardly ever used and, to be honest, not worth it. It's just "okay". Kind of pitchy in spots. I don't know dog. It didn't really do it for me. Know what I'm sayin'?

Not what I expected (Dalia CD — 01/30/2007)

I got this camera after seeing it in a TV show in this year favorite Christimas Gifts..The next day I begged and got it.
It's been two days now with the camera. When I went to the store to pick it up, The first thing I saw, was the SMALL box it comes in.
I opened it, and immediatly put the battery in, it's kinda hard or annoying the way you have to open the battery/memory compartment door.
But youll get over it since you don't have to open it that much. anyway. I turned on the camera, and changed all the setting and stuff really easy to do.
I took a picture, and was kinda sorprised at the quality and the colors look really vivid..since I took the first photo in the dark car.

First off, Things included with the camera:

``WHAT? NO AV CABLE?`` TRUE!! :(
================
Camera:
slick and modern desing, love the silver color on it looks really pretty, it's a small camera but not small compared to the CASIO camera!!
The buttons on the camera are really well palced, eveything is very easy to locate. a 3' screen that's the main reason I bought it, the other reason, 10MP at $340.00!, come on!!! cheap!!

Camera Results:
I have been only taking pictures at 10MP [normal] setting. The pictures come out really great. Love the Auto Macro feature!! it's really helpful,
like when your taking all kinds of pictures you dont have to go to the menu and choose macro saves time and also helps by auto detecting when macro is needed!.
Has lot's of editing features on the camera like adding borders, or artist effects' or the FAMOUS SLIMMING effect, that's the only effect I use!! J/P !!
Bottom line, this camera is desinged really good, has lot's of options, for the regular point-and-shoot person to the almost pre-professional photographer!!!.
Let's you control almost anything, makes me not miss my previous camera (kodak z760) wich a few mothns ago I replaced with a CASIO Z60 and really dislike so had to return it. Now I replaced it with this one. First off when your taking pictures in a very low light room, you get noise in the screen but once you take the picture the noise is gone..
OHH YEAH, and the zoom,, the optical zoom will only get you a couple of feet closer but the digital zoom wow now that's a zoom zoom!! really great, but like with any other digital zoom it will affect the result of the image quality, so if you don't need the zoom DON'T USE IT, come on, stand up and get closer to your subject, and hey, you'll save battery life and you'll have really quality pictures with out the digital zoom noise!!

VIDEO:I have not use the video option that much, I'm not a video person., but I did took a test video. and having it set at the highest setting, video is t great.
GIve it a thumbs up, since it does let you zoom in and out while recording video.But the speaker on the camera is not that loud, even if you have the volume at the highest setting..
========

Conlusion; I paid $339.40 including tax for it, not bad, since you are getting a 10MP digital camera, with lots of options and VIDEO with sound and as an extra bonus;
a 3' inch SCREEENNN TaDa!!
Very well made, now I can take it everywhere,[like i didn't do it before] but without the big bulky bag!! Right now I carry it in a small makeup bag...

THE ONLY CONS I FOUND;

NO AV cable supplied!! I really wanted one since sometimes I do plug in my camera's to take pictures or to show off pictures on the TV :( and there is non available, if you want that option you have to spend an extra 70.00 for a superior dock, that will allow you to plug it to the TV.

The Dock/Battery charger; fells and looks CHEAP!!! yeah you know; black plastic, no buttons, nothing just a black plactic thingy. You put the camera in and the only indicator that the battery is charging is the blue led light on the camera, blinking= charging, Solid BLUe= Charged!.. and the USB and power cords are at the right sideof the dock, I would have really prefer for them beiing in the back. AND, it's hard to get the camera places just right to charge, everytime I want to put it in the dock, I have to grab the dock in one hand and the camera in another! :S

Battery, dosn't last that much, TRUST ME IT DOSNT LAST LONG but changin the DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS TO [LOW] really helps, even at LOW the screen is bright enough to see. I'm gonna save up some money to buy some extra batteries, I hope you do that too, you can get them at ebay!! the biggest down side to all the camera is the BATTERY and the FOCUS time.

When you take a picture and quickly want to see the picture, the camera frezzes for like 3 seconds!! that's kinda annoying , but dosn't happend all the time, so choose the 2 secod photo preview in the camera's setting, but me , I don't like it.

I Really like, that HP uses SD cards as it's media for this camera, really affordable and convinient, I'm using a 1gb card. [Now dont go off to buy a 2gb card, since everything that live's will die, and that applies to memory cards too you know. Memory cards have a certain amount of read/write limits. depending on your card's manufactorer.
1gb is enough and will last like a year or even more, depends how much you use it... but they are really affordable a 1GB Sd memory card NEW at ebay.com will run at 22.00 tops.If you know how to fight for it :P

Overall, I really like this camera, It's not cheap but If I can afford to buy it with my allowence, I think you can Afford it even more!! and no, I dont have a job.
I recomend, you buy additional batteries, and a 1gb card. ohh yeah and the upgradable dock!!

I RECOMEND , YOU DON'T INSTALL THE SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH THE CAMERA, TAKES UP LIKE MORE THAN 500MB DISK SPACE AND GIVES YOU JUNK SOFTWARE.
AND WITH THE INCLUDED SOFTWARE IT BECOMES HARDER TO UPLOAD THE PICTURES TO THE PC.. SO IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP, WICH IS PLUG AND PLAY,
DON'T INSTALL IT, WHEN YOU CONNECT THE CAMERA WINDOWS WILL AUTOMATICLY RECOGNIZE IT AND UPLOAD THE PHOTO'S THE EASY WAY.!!
SO YEAH- DON'T INSTALL IT.. SOFTWARE OFTEN SUPPLIED WITH CAMERA'S ARE NOT REALLY HELPFULL.!! BUT IF YOU DONT INSTALL IT, WHEN YOU JUST CONNECT IT , YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UPLOAD THE VIDEOS!!! SO WHEN I HAVE VIDEOS TO UPLOAD I USE MY EXTERNAL MEMORY CARD READER/WRITER! SO IT DEPENDS ON YOU!!

————————-UPDATE—————————
Since I worte this review, I am very very sad to say, that I did return this camera....It's not for me there were to many problems with it like;

no AV cable supplied
Battery lasts less than 1 1/2.. tops..
the compartment door ..everytime i wanted to open I got scared because it might break!!
the FUCOS took along time to fucos.. every picture that I wanted to take fast or of anything came out blurry,, so you really had to wait until it foucused. and use the macro.. :P really annoying,.

and if you bought it from radioshack like I did,, it's a nightmare to try and retunrned it.. because this camera is only WEB ONLY. so you can only buy it online and return it by mail.. :P

so, instead and after painfully researching about other cameras I think im gonna permanently move to the SONY W100 for 2.49.00
go to PBASE.com and then to CAMERA DATABASE then SONY then W100.. you can check actual photos taken with that camera.. and if i dont get that one im gonna wait for the new SONY W-series cameras reach the stores so i can check them out before decinding on the new camera.. they came out with several new ones this january 23.. like the sony w55 7.2 wich is available in silver,pink. light blue and black, your choice for 199.00 and the SONY w 33??? something like that but they came out with 3 different models in the range og 7.2 mega pixels all between 174.00 and 200.00!!!

+ P.S —— I know about photogrpahy!!! so I know what I'm talking about, so trust me that this camera falls from what's expected!!

good camera (Allen Legreid — 01/08/2007)

I have had this camera about 2 months now and am still figuring out things about it everyday. I like the big 3" display and the ease to use. Night shots are kind of tricky with a lot of lighting in the background, (like Christmas displays) I like how it tells you ways to improve your shot but sometimes that doesn't even help. Make sure you buy at least one extra battery, it really goes through them. I also bought a quick charger with my camera. Some times the camera does like a computer type lock up, and you can't go though the functions, then have to to just shut if off and re-start it, not good if you want to hurry and get another shot in. Over all it's a good camera, just wish I would have done a little more research before I bought.

Wow what a camera! (Kathi — 11/21/2006)

This camera is incredible! It is 10mp, great for cropping and digital zooming. It has so many photo editing features right inside the camera. You can even change the apeture and the iso and the shutter speed. There is a tutorial for beginners and a ton of other features.
