Kodak EasyShare C663 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
I own a Kodak c663 camera. Is there any way I can connect this camera to my laptop so i can see myself on my laptop screen and take a picture? (or see whatever I'm photographing on my laptop screen and then photograph it):D
Thanks
My recommendation is to reset the camera, get all the images you can off the card with that USB card reader and then use a file recovery utility (F-Recovery is a good one) to get the ones that were deleted. Then, completely reformat the card.
I have tried to read the memory cards using my computer and the images have been erased, are just partial images or unreadable just as they are on the camera. I have tried to use a recovery program for the memory card but it didn't bring back any images. I have formatted the memory cards on the camera to try to get a fresh start but that still doesn't solve the problem.
How does a person reset the camera?
Are there any other suggestions for this problem?
Bad sectors cannot be solved by Formatting the card. see <a href="mytreo.net/forum/index.php?... this forum </a>
One of the ways out will be to try using a new memory card.
And Bukit has a point. With cards getting this cheap, it makes since to get your pictures off them once they start developing bad sectors, and just toss it in favor of a newer card.
Memory cards, however, do give problems once in a while, less frequent for established brands like Sandisk, Kingston or some popular brands, more for other makes.
This observation, however, does not cover <a href="reviews.ebay.com/Beware-of-... fake Sandisks </a>sold in the market.
I am focusing on the memory card because your problem only appears randomly, indicating while the camera is working, sometimes the card does not record the pictures properly.
I have tried SimpleTech SD cards and Kodak SD cards and it happens to both brands.
There doesn't appear to be a firmware update and I am unable to locate a reset on the camera.
I have talked with another camera tech and he advised that it could be something in the writing process in the camera. It is not under warranty and the cost is more than 50percent therefore I believe the camera is a lemon and not worth sending in to be fixed. I will try another brand of memory card and check the Kodak site again to find the reset for the camera.
Question :
Can I use my KODAK EASYSHARE Digital Camera as a Webcam?
Answer :
Most KODAK EASYSHARE Digital Cameras take videos, but they cannot be used as Webcams. If your camera has the video feature, you can record a video with the camera, transfer the video to your computer, and then e-mail the video file from KODAK EASYSHARE Software.
NOTE: The e-mail recipient must have a program like the Apple QuickTime player installed on his computer to view the .mov files.
Kodak is also of the opinion that lens errors also occur when you use batteries not recommended by Kodak.
I recently chatted with a kodak specialist about this issue and he recommends changing your batteries to NiMh rechargeable batteries. These are the batteries that the camera is designed to use and using other types - like alkalines, can often cause the lens error to occur. If that doesn't work, then the camera indeed does need repair.
Rechargeable Ni-MH Batteries (AA Size): These Ni-MH AA batteries last up to twice as long as alkaline batteries when used in your Digital Camera - and you can recharge them up to 1000 times in our rapid charger.
Oxy-Alkaline Digital Camera Battery (AA Size).
CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery designed specifically for today's feature-rich cameras. This battery is the obvious choice for speed performance, and long life. It delivers faster flash recycle times and lasts up to 10% longer than our previous design!
Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack: Provides exceptional capacity with its 2.5 hour fast charge cycle time; can be recharged up to 1000 times in the EasyShare Camera Dock or EasyShare Rapid Charger,
The camera will be used for family pictrues..
This would be a great starter camera. It's cheap and relatively feature-packed, and Kodaks are well-loved for their user friendliness. The only downside is possibly slightly poor build quality, but when it comes down to it all digital cameras are fragile things. You can check out user reviews both here ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) and at places like Amazon ( amazon.com/Kodak-EasyShare-... ). You'll see that lots of users in positions similar to yours seem to love it.
Good luck!
I'm always confused by this. Do you mean the C633 or the C663? I keep seeing both names popping up, both listed as 6 megapixels, and I still don't know if there are two actual cameras or if it's just one with a typo!
Our info on the C663 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) is under that link. If you meant the C633, let me know and I'll look for more info for you.
Get back to me if you like.
Have you tried just using the Auto setting rather than the nighttime/ PM settings? I am assuming you are not using the flash. Can you try Auto mode with the flash turned off?
Let me know if that produces better results. The Kodak C663 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) has been reviewed as having excellent low light shots, but I have never worked with it so am not exactly sure what setting works best.
1) For myself:
I want something small and thin that will take good pics in bright light and low light without having to make too many adjustments. Photography is a hobby that I don't have a lot of time to delve into at the moment. Most of my pics are at the beach, pool, in the house, or at bars at night. So thus the versatility in lights is important.
I currently have a Sony DSC P10 that I find very easy to use and takes great pics just a lil too bulky for me.
2) For my mom:
She wants a digital camera but isn't hugely tech savvy. Simple and easy to use is best and she'll also want to take pics indoors and outdoors. She would like a smaller, not bulky camera but likes the bigger LCD.
We looked at a few models, Olympus 810, 710, and 720. Sony DSCN1, and HP R927. I've tried reading some reviews but its all a lot of mumbo jumbo cuz I don't know if people really have difficulty or poor images or just don't know what they're doing.
Any suggestions? Recommendations?

Consider any of these cameras as a replacement: digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... EasyShare line has really done surprisingly well at making cameras easy to use. A few years ago everyone was laughing at Kodak, but they have some exceptionally good cameras. Canons (I have two) are not the easiest to use, but both models are also well liked by users.

Take a look at the Kodak C663 (digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... -- the 2-1/2" LCD is big, if not huge, but it's a very well liked camera.

Just my silly opinion: at DCHQ we've found there's a lot of mumbo-jumbo surrounding grains of useful information. Professional reviewers are incredible, and we have great respect for what they say, but it's sometimes hard to know what to do with all that information. User reviews can mean a lot of things, some on the mark, others, em, not so good. But on the whole, pros and users generally get it right, even if it takes a few months for the votes to be counted. If you're not sure, go for a camera that has a lot of reviews, and that users consistently rate well. Lots of "1 stars" can be a red flag even if there are as many "5 stars". None of us really knows how the camera will actually perform for you, but skimming a few user reviews can help avoid making a mistake.

Kodak EasyShare C663 Reviews by Digital Camera-HQ Users

I chose this camera primarily for landscape shots & occasional closeups when backpacking, also as something I could keep in the glovebox of my car, & this model seemed to have the best features.
Maybe I was expecting too much, as I already own a Pentax digital SLR, but here are my opinions:
The instruction book is in English first, then French, then German, so the English index takes a bit of finding when you're in a hurry. I put a rubber band around the unwanted pages.
There are no instructions for the battery charger, other than pictures. What does the flashing green light indicate? I think it flashes faster when the battery is charged, but I am not sure. What is the "Refresh" button for?
The camera has no battery strength indicator. If you've been using the LCD a lot, or flash (intentionally or otherwise - see below) then it runs out long before you expect it to, & without anything to tell you.
The automatic flash seems to operate more often than I would have thought it needed to, & as I don't want it I have to consciously remember to switch it off prior to taking a shot.
One reason I chose this model is it has a viewfinder, but this only shows 85% of the scene, making careful composition tricky. The LCD lights up as soon as you turn the camera on, & it needs two presses of a button to switch this off, which I find rather annoying.
The camera does not deal with contrasty subjects very well, for example in some shots I took in a wood, the highlights were totally burnt out, while in a garden the shadows were near-black.
In light shade, soil and gray gravel came out with a horrible pink/purple hue, & foliage of plants a rather bluish-green. With closeups depth-of-field is quite poor.
Lastly, after a morning in my bumbag (fanny bag, for any North American readers) the camera's LCD was nastilly scratched; it's a shame it is not provided with a protective soft bag.

I have four KodaK cameras and love them all I bought the 12MP for 199.00 and the C663 for 120.00 Great prices. KodaK kicks ass.

Camera works beautifully, but the batteries don't last long. The camera doesn't come with the instructions. When you really need it, be careful, may not work.

3 things to say
*incredible quality of video
*sharp picture quality
*ease of use, lots of support from Kodak

Its an excellent camera. The colors are better as compared to canon's and are comparable to sony's and NIKONS. The image quality does not look good on CAMERA but ARE ACTUALLY BETTER THEN MOST OF THE DIGITAL CAMERAs arround. KODAK's C663 has a professional lens into this, and mind it its better then CARL ZEISS that r fitted into Sony's. If you are looking for a sturdy , crisp, high color, easy to use, full manual settings camera then trust me, go and pick this one.

I have had two of these cameras thus far. The first one I got for christmas, took some pictures, and it broke that night. I didn't even do anything to it, it just stopped turning on. I tried everything I could to fix it, nothing. So I went to the store and complained and got another one. I was extra careful with this one, putting it in the case after every picture and making sure it didn't get bumped or anything. Same thing happened after two days of use.

this is my first digital camera. i am appalled that kodak does not provide a users manual. They said go copy it off the internet. It is ac663 . What kind of costomers service is this? Unless I am sent a manual I will tell everyone not to buy kodak if they are a first digital camera user.I understand this lack is now true of all there cameras.

I bought this camera for Christmas for my wife....it takes great pics and she found it easy to use.
I used the batteries supplied but they went dead within a couple hours..I thought this was just bad batteries. I replaced them with new brand names batteries and they to only lasted a few hours after using the camera.
Great amera, but invest in some good quality batteries and keep a spare around!

All right, the kodak c663 is an amazing device.without a doubt, its usp is its amazing ease of use.The controls are straightforward and it is ideal for capturing family photos.I really like the different screen settings available which automatically adjust picture properties to give you the best shots under different conditions. However, I felt that the LCD screen and overall finish of the product could do with some improvement.the projection at the left side of the camera(when viewed from the front) is not very aesthetically good to look at as well. However, apart from that, The camera is a handy and affordable device, great for non commercial and amateur use.

I like the compactness of this camera and the quality of the pictures. I also purchased the 1 gb memory stick which gave me approximately 560 pictures at 6.1 mp and over 2500 at a lower pixel setting.
Although there are many functions and features in this camera, it is relatively easy to operate.
I recommend this camera for anyone who looking for a good camera that produces excellent quality pictures at a reasonable price.

I just got this camera for father's day while on vacation and took about 100 pictures at the beach. I set it to auto and took picture in a dark room to full sun on the beach. I just uploaded to my computer and the pictures are fabulous. The video picture and sound is excellent. I have yet to open the instruction book! I love this camera!

I love this camera. It is perfect for my needs. It was very easy to learn how to use. (I am a grandma with limited knowledge of all things 21st century!) It takes very sharp pictures of my ever moving grandchildren and is so easy to download pictures to my computer.

i initally bought z 700 camera. it was good. but got an error next day. so the dealer replaced it after some time and i opted for a sleek one. that was my second blunder.(one i did when i chose kodak).i want to change it and launch a campaign against kodak uless it is replaced
- 3.0 out of 5
Pictures are sharp in the middle but quite blurry around the edges. I could only attribute this to the quality of the lense, but I'm not a pro photographer. I also find it difficult to hold still while taking a picture. Ergonomics aren't good.
