Kodak EasyShare C813
Editor's Review
With 8.2 megapixels and a 5x optical zoom, the Kodak EasyShare C813 is an affordable point-and-shoot camera aimed at novice users. Unfortunately, it is a truly abysmal and defective camera that you absolutely should not purchase.

I'd remove your comment...I know it's been almost a year, but I feel bad for your situation being so public. Still remember to try to get a message to Amazon or the seller... I guess if you do leave your comment up, the place you purchased it from will know what date you tried to contact them - otherwise? I'd remove it sooner rather than much later!
Regular Alkalines won't cut it.
i ve been using it with pencil cells, can we charge it externally?
Can it be replaced?

You could use the low light or available light scene program setting. That'll help.
I can usually pull up the camera as an external memory through my "Computer" folder. But it doesn't show up anymore when I connect the camera and hold down the On/Off switch. I don't get any error messages or anything.

The only way you can truly determine is to get a repair estimate. However, the average cost of a camera repair is around $180. As such, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
Piece of junk I guess!
where do i send it to be repaired
thanks Cyndi Larochelle
wwwca.kodak.com/CA/en/busin... here's the number listed on that page: 1-800-268-1567.
Hope that helps, and good luck.
If it needs servicing, I doubt that it would be worth fixing. The average cost of a camera repair is $180. Rule of thumb is that if it costs 50% or more of the sale price to fix it, you're much better off getting a new one that will give you more bang for the buck.
Absent that, has it been dropped?
Today however it turns on, but then instantly turns off again. The strange thing is, I'm not sure if it goes off fully because the lens moved out and back in only slightly but remains out of the camera with shutters open. I tried taking photos to see if it was still on but nothing happens.
The batteries are full because I charged them last night.
Does anyone know what could be the problem? I even tried wedging the batteries with tissue paper.
I hope this helps people. Check the battery type as the camera seems to choose which it likes!
In addition, any front USB ports away from the main USB ports in the back do not carry enough electrical power to charge the Kodak camera. You must plug the USB into your rear ports.

Rechargeable Ni-MH Batteries (AA Size): These Ni-MH AA batteries last up to twice as long as alkaline batteries when used in your Digital Camera - and you can recharge them up to 1000 times in our rapid charger.
Oxy-Alkaline Digital Camera Battery (AA Size).
CRV3 Lithium Batteries: A non-rechargeable battery designed specifically for today's feature-rich cameras. This battery is the obvious choice for speed performance, and long life. It delivers faster flash recycle times and lasts up to 10% longer than our previous design!
Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery Pack: Provides exceptional capacity with its 2.5 hour fast charge cycle time; can be recharged up to 1000 times in the EasyShare Camera Dock or EasyShare Rapid Charger.
Also, NiMH batteries when new can fail to reach full capacity until they have been cycled several times - that is, charge them fully and use them until discharged. The total capacity will increase with each charging until full capacity is reached.
Kodak does not recommend regular alkaline batteries for this camera but does allow for the Oxy-alkaline type of Non-rechargeable.
Some Kodak cameras do have a reputation for being very picky about which batteries will function properly in their cameras possibly having to do with the circuitry that detects when the battery is dead.
I upgraded to the latest firmware, 1.40, and then the .mov files that were created could be played by QuickTime and were transfering up fine. Unfortunately now the camera won't play those old .mov files I had recorded on it, but going forward I will be able to use it to record vids and transfer them to my computer and post them on the internet.
Nothing on the Kodak site indicated this was fixed with this firmware, or that this issue ever existed, but I still have the "corrupted" .mov files that I hope someday to be able to recover.
Also, the batteries you are using need to be the type recommended by Kodak or you'll run into lens errors. Not made by Kodak, mind you, although they think that helps.
I recently chatted with a kodak specialist about this issue and he recommends changing your batteries to NiMh rechargeable batteries. These are the batteries that the camera is designed to use and using other types - like alkalines, can often cause the lens error to occur. If that doesn't work, then the camera indeed does need repair.
Rechargeable Ni-MH Batteries (AA Size): These Ni-MH AA batteries last up to twice as long as alkaline batteries when used in your Digital Camera - and you can recharge them up to 1000 times in our rapid charger.

They may also be so underpowered that it can run the high power needs of the camera. Batteries need an "mAh" of at least 2500 to run today's cameras.
Lastly, check your battery contacts, they may be smudged. A pencil eraser can clean them right up.
So I put the good batteries in it. HEY,HEY!!! Nothing works better for your new digital camera than a good set of batteries!! They may cost a few dollars, but it's worth it. My camera is working great so far.
I researched this turn on problem of the C813 on the web and this camera is prone to screw up and not turn on when you need it. It is NOT abattery problem. There is a problem with the turnon switch or circuits. You can put in brand new batteries and it just looks at you. Contacts are clean in the battery compartment too. It can be working fine and then you shut it off and the next day it will NOT turn on again. Also the view-finder is practically non existant outdoors with no manual viewfinder. It is a useless camera.

Many believe that quick charger will shorten the lifespan of batteries, so avoid using quick charger that does the job in less than an hour.
Don't waste a bunch of money and landfill space on batteries; buy rechargeable batteries, like Juice Alkalines.
But one easy fix would be to use your flash - even in day light. It'll make your subject "pop" and improve the image.
What you have to do is set the Mode Dial to SCN, scroll down the screen to ' High ISO ', click OK. That will give you better pictures, although the quality is not expected to be on par with better cameras in the market.
A card reader is about $20 and will cause your SD card to be read as a drive on the PC. Then it's a simple drag and drop. Then, I'd recommend for photo management Picasa by Google ( picasa.google.com/ ). It's an awesome and free program. Or Adobe's Photoshop Elements.
Merry Christmas as well!
I realize this post was a while ago so you probably already have it covered, I just thought I'd add some extra input if needed.
On the camera, the fraction is not displayed, instead it is simply shown as 1400, which is the fastest speed for Kodak C813
Instead, it plugs to the HDTV dock where you dock your camera.

As for exporting to tape, that largely depends on if you have the ability connect a VCR to your PC. Your best bet would be to go over the videohelp.com and look for options on outputting from your PC to VHS. The easiest way, however, would be to save it to your miniDV camcorder, if you have one. And it has an analog to digital passthrough, you can daisy chain the VCR to it and then just hit record.

So try the easy stuff first before resorting to repair. But if you have to, sending it directly to Kodak works best.
camerarepair.blogspot.com/2... probably work, but you may also run the risk of damaging your camera. If you want to be on the safe side, call either a camera repair shop or Kodak, and they can fix it for you, for a bit higher of a price.
If you want to try the 2 gig card, probably you have to restrict yourself to the standard 2gig card rather than the high speed ones.
No need to lose the moment because you relied on one card one when several can solve that problem. At the very least, you want to get more than one of whatever size you settle on.
One last thing. Cards have different speeds. The faster a card is, the quicker it'll save the photo and cycle to be ready for another shot. In the end, your camera is only going to be as fast as it's slowest link in the chain. So check for speed when you purchase a card.
You need to use series 3 camera dock to charge your battery.
You can also drop in the better super market for a battery charger made by other companies.
You can't recharge alkaline AA batteries, and the available secondary (rechargeable) chemistries each require different specific charging circuits. Therefore you will almost never find a device that uses AA's that can also recharge them.
If you want to recharge AA's, buy a charger specific to the battery chemistry you are using. NiMH are very affordable these days, and easily available in AA size. Or, just buy alkaline AAs in bulk at Costco.
iv tried evrything from using new battery to settting it up on the dock, nothing wrks
P.S: dont go for this modela at all if buying one
Does the C813 work directly with iPhoto? (I have Mac OS X 10.5, iPhoto 7.1.4)
(ie: I don't want to have to use Kodak's EasyShare software, I'd rather spend more money on a camera that does work the way it's supposed to.)
It should just be a matter of doing what you would do to download still photos, if you've already done that. In other words, hook up the camera to your computer and download from the memory card. Then the video will be on your computer and you can watch it using software depending on what kind of video it is (different files may require different things to watch them). If you haven't yet downloaded anything and I've lost you, reply back and I'll go into more details!
In your camera box there should be a USB cable and a dock.
Use the USB cable to connect the dock to the computer and mount your camera on the dock.
Connect the power supply to the dock, turn it on and press the transfer button.
The videos should be transferred automatically to the computer, provided you have installed the Easyshare software.
Alternatively you may wish to connect the dock to the TV with an AV cable.
Full instructions are available in your manual. Just in case you don't have it, you can download a copy at <a href="kodak.com/global/plugins/ac... site</a>
However, it is possible that some readers, like Helen, do not own a card reader, doesn't know where to buy it, or simply because the nearest vendor could be miles away from their home.
Under such circumstances, the Community probably has to offer other options to solve the problem, if these are available.
I was at an older firmware, 1.30 or 1.13, I'm not sure and now its upgraded so I can't tell. With that older firmware, I could play the .mov files I recorded on the camera fine, but when I moved them to the computer, QuickTime complained that they were corrupt.
I finally went to the Kodak web site and upgraded to the latest firmware, 1.40, and then the new .mov files I created played fine on my computer.
Now, however, I have nowhere to play the old .mov files I had recorded since the camera now thinks they are corrupted.
The description of the 1.40 firmware upgrade on the Kodak site simply says "This firmware version improves the LCD appearance when the camera is turned on." It doesn't say anything about it changing the format of the .mov files it records and can play back.
I am not looking to get a photo from within the actual video itself. I want the picture that appears when you click on the video. I just want one 4x6 photo from each.
Thank you for responding. You're dealing with a real "rookie"here who knows next to nothing about cameras. The process that you described looks to be out of my league. Do you know if there are camera stores or videographers that do this service? What would be a normal cost for this if I had someone do it for me?
1) I currently use a Mac and it's iPhoto for my pictures. I have never had any resolution problem before with this software.
2) From what I can tell (in both the camera and manual), it only offers a resolution option, and not a "high" or "fine" setting.
THanks!
Hope this helps.
They don't have the C813 tested yet, mind you, but you can compare pictures shot with several Kodak models with other cameras to get a realistic and solid view of how Kodak performs vs. other cameras.
However, different cameras are for different tastes.
In addition, the camera's ISO setting will rise in low light conditions. The higher the ISO, the more likelihood that noise will begin to become present in your picture - especially with cameras over 6 MP ( 6mpixel.org/en/? ).
Lastlym in these cases, you want to control the settings available to your camera by choose an available light or low light setting on the camera. And use a tripod or monopod if possible to minimize camera shake should the camera choose a longer shutter speed.
This is not an all weather camera. While it should be fine in a very light rain, I would be careful not to get moisture inside the camera.
Andrew
You can take it in for a repair, but if you tell Kodak that you've dropped it "plenty of times" you are less likely to get a free replacement based on your warranty. You can give it a try though. You can use Kodak repair site ( kodak.com/global/en/service... ) to request one. Good luck.
Andrew
Better to try getting your camcorder to perform that function.
The Canon A520 (and I guess all Powershot cameras with RemoteShooting capability) can be used as a webcam. You only need a screen capture software, like Camtasia Recorder from the Camtasia Studio and Canon's own software, Camerawindow -> Remote shooting. You only need to start these programs, enable the Liveoutput option in the Camtasia Recorder, place the capture frame over the Remote shooting window and start recording.
well here is a good reason why.
The vast majority of webcams have extremely poor quality.
The Kodak c813 has pretty damn good quality.
I want quality streaming that isnt grainy with excellent lighting.
Let me know it that works
But avast nothing...what a waste of money
However, just pure shot to shot, according to the specs, the Shot to shot: < 0.5 sec.. THere is a 10sec shot mode which you may have accidentally set your camera on. I'd recommend you reset your camera. This is a fairly easy procedure which involves either going into your setup menu and choosing "reset," holding down the menu key for 5 seconds, or, removing the batteries for a few minutes. It may be that the firmware loading got corrupted and the camera just needs to be "rebooted," which is something that turning it on/off won't accomplish. But after which, you should have the camera reset to factory default settings.
Thanks for you reply. I did as you said and its working fine.
We have the picture storage set to Auto, the card is not locked, but the pictures don't save?
Is there a setting we miss?

This camera eats batteries. Two AA alkaline batteries good for a few pictures and then you have to change them. Kodak says to use Lithium. I don't want to spend a ton on batteries. It's going on ebay and I will buy a camera that can be charged.

The camera is very nice but what sucks is the battery problems. I even bought a battery recharger for this but charged or no charged, this camera has been dead for the last 6 months and I can't still turn it on inspite trying numerious batteries and recharging the batteries.
I got this for my birthday and it was good for the first couple of days then it started to throw tantrums at me!

I have a problem with the Camera not holding charge for more than 1/2 hour when switched off. Phoned up Kodak who told me that Energizer NIMH 2500 mAh are not compatible. They are sending me some Kodak batteries to try. Had digital camera before and had no problem with lots of different types of battery. Back to Sony products from now on.

Better than the camera i had before i think this camera is bad too, i am taking a course in photography with high-end cannon 12 MP macro lens and then when i used this one i saw all the obvious points of crappy-ness in it, i think this camera is really not very good and not worth buying unless you really don't care about the photos you're taking, but since i do, i regret having this

My grandmother bought this camera for me as i am studying photography at A level, ive had this camera for nearly a year now and it is a waste of money i would ask her to return it but i don't have the shame to tell her it is useless. You can't even achieve a closeup with it or the photo is one big blur, i even find myself using my phone instead as if i so much as breath while taking a photo it goes out of focus. I find it hard to use this camera in the dark as i have trouble keeping it in focus anyway but it seems to be 100 times worse in the dark, even using the flash it creates a big orange light in the middle of a photo. This camera is good if used from a distance but photos don't appear crisp and totally in focus as the buyer would hope for. I would go against getting this camera if it is for anything else but lesuire as i was really dissapointed, it is over priced for the product you get.

I have owned three Easyshare cameras over three years now... I say ‘have’ because they are all dead now. It’s not all gloomy for the Easyshare range however. I was a design student and needed a camera. With all these cameras you have to have a battery charger and NiCad lithium rechargeable batteries The Easyshare C330 was the first camera with. It had a metal body and survived a number of falls onto the driveway on the car roof. After a year it just died. I then bought another one but it had been upgraded to a C630 series now. It had 5 optical zoom and was fascinating to use. It also had a metal body but took pictures that varied in colour quality in successive frames of the same subject. The full zoom gave granulated pictures but sometimes that became an effect I liked. I was taking pictures and the batteries ran low as it keep giving up and shutting down. However for that final shot you always want I could leave it for a minute or two and the resting recharge of the batteries would allow a quick shot. When I did this the lens remained out and did not retract. I tried to help it go back. Then I stopped. I recharged the batteries and turned it on only to find the zoom range was limited to mid zoom range. So it was not suitable anymore. A major wholesaler had more on offer with a memory card for about $140 so I bought another one. An Easyshare C813 but with a plastic body. The zoom on this model was really great and I took fantastic shots. The colours were consistent and it was easy to use. The menus are easy to follow and it fits in your pocket. I had trouble with this one because of sand at the beach. The lens would not extract for some time. The C813 is very lightweight and easy to hold and shoot. The more settings show up in the LED and seem easy to follow with text coming up as you pass over or select them.
Eventually it cleared and I could use it again until it fell onto the ground and died. I got another C813 one from another outlet and it had a wider image setting that was quite interesting for landscape shots. It still had the plastic body and was taking good pictures. After some time I noticed the detail was a bit grainy in some shots and not as true to life as I would like but perfect in others. I had the image size at about 1mb. I was travelling more at this time and I found the 813 ideal. I got a small tripod for steadying the camera for the composed shots even though it has excellent anti shake, some shots needed to set up. Unfortunately I discovered some interesting bays and coves and put the camera down switched on and it got toppled off a rock into the salty sea swell. I was lucky to retrieve it. Despite drying it out it never came back to life; expect to get so hot you could hardly touch it. The memory card retained all the images however. Overall it is good value for money especially if the chainstores are giving away a memory card with it. The USB cables are easy to fit and did not give any problem. Recommend for amateurs and learners but handy little camera to have for that on the spot picture even for professionals.

I had an older Kodak easyshare I loved which was dropped and broke, I bought the c813 as a replacement. What a joke. This camera uses batteries like it is going out of style. Sometimes the camera won't even turn on. You can put new batteries in it one day and the next day they are dead. My mom bought the same camera and has the same exact problems. She did not take my advice and now she regrets it.

I bought this camera and at first worked like a charm. Then when I replaced the battery, it stooped working, talked to the company and they said I need to send it to them on my expense and they will think about the repairs.
I am not going to buy another Kodak product.

When we frist purchased this camera we were very pleased (we could still use it to print our photos on our Kodak printer that came with a previous camera). For the past three months we have had the problem of lines appearing through our photos once they were transferred from the camera to the computer. They appear fine when reviewing on the camera viewer. All photos taken during this time and put into folders on the computer have one or two coloured lines through them. One person mentioned that the sensor in the camera was not working and that Kodak was replacing them free of charge as it was such a wide-spread problem with those cameras (apparently the newer camers won't have this problem). When I contacted Kodak, they said I had two options: 1. Have the camera repaired at a cost or 2. Send the camera in and receive a 25% discount on my next purchase of a Kodak camera. Neither solution given appeals to us........we would like to stay with Kodak because the small printer is very convenient and produces great photos, and I have always trusted the Kodak name for developing but must admit that we are not pleased with the service or that fact that they do not appear to stand behind their product. We'll purchase a new camera, now it's just to decide which one out of all of the digitals out there!!!

The functions of this camera is not great but it is a good camera for first time users and for those who want to take a normal picture.
It has a pretty decent looks. It does not have lithum batteries, and once charged it can take 150 pictures.

This camera worked great at 1st then one day it just would not turn on. I have changed the batteries, got kodak batteries/with charger. I looked at the reviews and seen there are alot of others with the same problem. I called Kodak and since I don't have the receipt and it is over a year old it would cost me $60.00 + to get it fixed. I asked them about the bad reviews with the same problem and they just blew it off. I can buy a differant Brand camera that will work for less. I will not buy Kodak again.

I bought an Easyshare C813 in August 2008 to take to the beach. I NEVER opened it until late December 2008 and discovered that it did not work. It was too late to return to the store, so I sent it to the manufacturer for repair. They sent it back with this longlist of alleged repairs they did, but it still did not activate. I sent it back again and was told I would receive a replacement camera. I received another C813, and it did not activate either!!! LUCKILY my little voice told me to buy the extended warranty from the store. I got a giftcard in the amount of the purchase. I normally do not bother with those. I have never been so inconvenienced in my life over a piece of electronics. Stay away from Kodak!

I love this camera. I bought it before my daughter was born because it has a great shutter speed. I have had it for over a year now with absolutley no problems with it. It has been dropped once or twice but still no problems. I'm not sure what other people are doing with theirs that it is breaking on them. It has a good lense for the price, I like the basic optical zoom and the digital is pretty nice for being a digital zoom. I know a good deal about cameras, and this one was great for the price. I have managed to capture all the memories of my daughters first year and have easily shared them with family thousands of miles away. (We're a military family) The video is pretty good, not the best, but I don't expect the best in this price range. It works fine for little shorts (five minutes or so) of my daughter's firsts
After all the research I did on cameras, as I wanted a nice one for a decent price, I bought this on sale at a major retail electronice store for under $100 and have been very pleased. I don't like that it doesn't have the ability to be used as a webcam, as my old digital camera had that ability, but thats not a major issue with me when I'm buying a new camera. All and all, I'd buy it again, and most likely for more than I paid for it, I think its that good.
- 2.0 out of 5
For the price, the picture quality is good. You just have to set the camera to the right mode (indoors, outside with sunlight, outside during the night, self portrait , etc.) The video recording mode with audio is a nice touch. Sadly, the battery life stinks. A couple AA will only last about half an hour and are drained if you leave them in the camera. NiMH batteries won't work with it. If you got this camera already, get some Juice Alkaline rechargeables so you don't end up spending more money on batteries than the camera.
If only there was a way to turn off the LCD screen...

I bought the camera in September 2008 and wanted to use it this past May when my cousin came to visit before heading off to Germany. The camera worked at home, but would not turn on at the restaurant! It worked when I got home again though.
This week, I wanted to take some pictures and it worked on Tuesday but would not turn on Wednesday no matter what batteries were put into it, even newly charged batteries from a friend's camera!
I want my money back or a new camera! Life events don't wait for a camera to work!

Loved the camera when I first got it. Now after 3 weeks it is throwing error codes and is unusable. Never abused it, dropped it, got it wet and this thing just died. Not sure if its just a dud but i don't think I would recomend this to someone else.

This is the worse camera I have ever had the misforturne to own. In May of '09 it ruined my vacation by making all of my pictures pink or purple. Kodak replaced it with a "new" camera. This weekend it refused to take pictures and I missed some very beautiful county and wild flowers. I want my money back. I do not want another one of these camers.

i had this camera and it was bad at first but then i got the hang of it and learned how to work it... i thought that i was going to reget having it but i love it now and it is the best camera that i have ever had... i think it paid for a good prize..

some lof the outside pics turn out ok. some not. in shadows, there is a lot of noise and grain. I bought it to replace my lost camera on a trip. for a little more money, buy a lumix or.... mine was a refurbished model, so it actually works. SA seems full of refurbished products. paid $139!

I have tried several types of batteries, including the rechargeable kind and it still won't turn on.

It takes good pictures, but we take a lot of pictures and may have worn it out. It was good while it lasted, but it recently stopped working altogether (like the last Kodak I bought)...guess we got our $80 worth, but we need one that will last.

I've stopped using this C 813, - no good unless you prefer blurry pictures. No wonder it's rated 89th out of all 89 compared, and then specifically 20th out of 20 total Kodaks too. Dead Last! I agree. Also, there's no viewfinder, just the display if that matters to you. I know how to operate it, read the book, and hold the button half-way to focus before taking the photo like you're supposed to - pics still bad. Have used Sport Mode to try to improve results, etc. - still no good. I guess I'll try #1 ranked Nikon Model L19 or Kodak's #1 ranked M1033. This "bargain" was No bargain.

This camera takes good photos but.... if you want a camera with a speaker so you can hear your videos without uploading it onto your computer then I dont recommend this camera. Also if you would like to change the colors of your pictures and videos I would also not recommend this camera. The only colors it has is original, black&white, and sepia. No green or blue or red or negative. If that stuff matters to you I don't recommend this camera!

The photos are grainy and the camera takes way too long before you can take another photo. I missed some of my grandson's actions at church because it took too long between shots. Get something else.

I received this camera around Christmas time and am overall pleased with it so far.
Pros:
-Neat looking camera
-Comes with image cropping ability and 'perfect touch tech' image adjuster
-Memory card slot
Cons
-No sound playback, the camera does record sound just
doesn't play it back
-Uses batteries REALLY quickly, also the manual says to only use Kodak batteries but the guy in the camera shop said just get some normal lithium rechargables (you'll need them!)
-Battery cover is a bit fiddly to get on and off
If you're not a real teccy or photographer you'll enjoy this camera!
PLEASE NOTE: Unlike previous reviews have stated you ARE NOT forced to use the Kodak transfer software - plug in the USB and just select 'live gallery' which is free with MSN

I'm sorry to see so many bad reviews about Kodak C813. It has performed great for me so far - and I don't understand why so many people seem to have battery problems. I'm using duracell digital and doing great. From the last battery change, I shot several film clips (and, yes there *IS* sound in the video, even if you can't hear the sound when you play the film in the camera). I took about 20 pix in addition to the film clips and I'm still doing ok with the duracell batteries.
The picture quality, for this basic camera, is good! and I also took good indoor, night pictures.
I didn't have any problems downloading the pics/films onto the pc (or Mac) - I do not use the enclosed Kodak software - just Windows xp camera wizard and it works perfectly.
The *only* complaint (and it's my "preference" which applies to many other cams) is that the videos are shot in .mov format playable in Quicktime only which I REALLY don't like. Luckily there's web options to convert to W.Media player....
So, in all, my experience is good and I'd recommend this camera to anyone with a small budget.

I bought the 813 after my Sony bit the dust. I use it for work. It was very aggravating to have to use the Easy Share software in order to offload the pictures. This is one of the worst pieces of software I’ve ever been force to use. The camera would not let you connect to it by identifying the camera as a drive. This was further complicated when I would copy pictures from the Kodak camera directory to another directory on the computer. Guess what, when I removed them on the Kodak even though they were copied as backups I still lost them. I finally bought a SD card USB card and started transferring the files that way. And by the way, once I uninstalled the Kodak Easy Share software (anything but easy) the camera started showing up as a portable drive. I had to spend extra money for the SD card USB drive. Thanks a lot Kodak.
Don’t buy this camera. It’s the biggest hassle I have ever had since digital came out.

It is small and lite...but does not take good inside pictures...best pictures are out side during the day...I can't say that i would reccomend this camera except to have one to carry with you when you want to take quick pictures...when you are outside during the day it is hard to see the LCD screen to see what you are taking.

I recently got this camera because we were going on vacation and my other camera's flash died. On the day we got it we had to replace the battery one time, we thought no big deal.
So we got to our vacation destination and I had to buy new batteries, they died again and again and again. So I decided to give up on buying new batteries. I am going to return it for a new different brand camera.
My experience with Kodak cameras now aren't so good.

We previously owned another Kodak digital camera and that was bought 2nd hand from Ebay and was great. So when it died we thought we'd get another Kodak one. Wish we'd checked the online reviews first!
This is actually the THIRD one of this model we have had - we keep taking it back to Tesco ans stupidly swapping for another of the same model. And each time, it has had the same issue - difficult to switch on and after the batteries that come with it are used up, no other types will get it to work. I can't believe when Kodak were testing this model that none of these issues came up given just how many people have complained of the SAME thing. It's incredible! The picture quality was very poor too - either too dark or very grainy, no matter what setting used. Would definitely NOT recommend to anyone and we're going to take it back and this time swap it for a decent make and model.
- 4.0 out of 5
the only difficult thing about the camera is the fact that you can not no matter what you do you cant get sound to come on on the videos so you have videos with no sound at all if you are reading this and you know how to fix this please tell me if not thanx anyway but it is a good picture taking camara other than that

Like what I now see is a bajillion other people- my Kodak c813 worked the first 2-3 times I used it, then I was taking pics for my son's 2nd birthday and it just quit- I have changed batteries x3- nothing. Never again!

My first digital camera was a Kodak Easyshare CX6330 and I loved it! So, I figured when I was ready to buy a new camera with higher mega pixels, the Kodak Easyshare C813 would be even better than the CX6330. I was horribly wrong! This camera takes mostly very grainy pictures. It doesn't matter what setting it is on - I'm lucky to get a clear picture of my baby to send to my family on the east coast. The software is almost worse than the camera itself! You have to wait forever for the software to load, I can't view my albums because, instead of a picture on the "cover" of the album, I have a big gray box with a big crack down the middle. If I want to edit something, I have to make sure I have a good 20 minutes per picture. One day I went to open the software and got an error message saying that I have to download some other software from the apple site.
Bottom line, crappy camera. Now I have to shell out even more money if I want to buy a camera that works and has user-friendly software. Which is very difficult as a single mom with no child support and a very low paying job.

terrible product!!!!

I have learnd that only alkaline batteries and NMH rechargable with 2000maH or more capacity will work on this camera. I tried 1600maH NMH rechargable battery and it wont work. The battery compartment is quite difficult to close but for me its better because it means it has a tight grip on the battery to prevent lose contact. picture quality is good and the optical zoom is excellent.

20 photos and the poor thing is gone... that was a big ugly surprise...

I'm happy with the picture quality, and I haven't had any problems with it working. But I'll be replacing it after only 2 months because it is so slow between pictures. It takes 3, 4, sometimes 5 seconds to store the shot before it will take another. I'm not talking about the flash recharging, it's the camera storing the pic on the SD card. way too slow. Do Not Buy if you like to take shots close together. You can't with this camera. I learned my lesson. No more Kodak junk for me.
- 5.0 out of 5
So far my 813 digital is working great for me. I can't complain about it. I had to figure out that it takes good batteries for a good camera to operate. Batteries are the key to operating this camera. Don't be scared to spend a few dollars on batteries. You'll be glad you did. You get a lot better pictures. If you want a cheaper battery go to Wal-mart and purchase yourself a pack of Raovac. you can Get the good ones for about five dollars per six pack. My camera is working great with them and I get clear pictures to print out at home and send over the interenet. I'm happy. (So far)

If you think the camera is bad, try getting Currys in Clapham Junction to do anything about it. The camera is just rubbish end of but... please do not buy anything at all from Currys Clapham Junction. They're a bunch of lying muppets, the staff stand around smoking and the manager thinks he's mister cool, hopefully I'll get them shut down soon.

Camera won't power on, just after a few days of use. Picture quality is ver poor. Save your money! Do not buy!

I recieved this camera for Christmas from my daughter, after taking pictures for about a week, it would not turn on anymore. I tried changing batteries and charging from the EasyShare printer doc using the correct plastic cap from the box - nothing. I was hoping that I could take it back to the store to see if they can get it charged but reading some of the other reviews I'm not feeling too positive. Shame, it was a fun camera while it lasted.
- 1.0 out of 5
This was a Christmas present I was looking forward too until i tried to turn it on. There is no sound with the videos and the batteries run out after several minutes. I have tried everything from low brand batteries to high brand batteries, ie, Panasonie, etc with no luck!
A warning to those who want to buy this camera- it may look glossy at first but it certainly isnt worth the hassle or the time.

this camera sux it stoped turning on after tha first time it was used
- 4.0 out of 5
The camera is great and very easy to use. The auto focus means that you can take good sharp pics even quite close up. There is some sort of battery problem. If I leave the batteries in just for a couple of days, they get drained. So I've started taking the batteries out after using it. I'm going to try the 2500 mah ones that some have recommended here. It's a shame that you can't attach a mains power lead - as far as I can tell. But other than this niggle, this is a great camera for the price.
- 1.0 out of 5
Got this for Christmas and spent about 10 mins getting it to turn on first time I used it, used it a few days later and had same thing trying to get it to turn on. Went to use it today - only the third time its ever been used and it just wont turn on - tried new batteries of various brands no joy - Grrrr.

Pictures are poor, video out of date 15f/s, if you dont belive
compare with Nikon coolpix L16 for the same money, or with any other brand. If Kodak continue this way........
My old 3Mpix camera (from 2004) works better
thats all

What a load of rubbish. I feel so robbed. The bloody thing just doesn't switch on! Do not buy this camera. I wish I had done my research first. I cannot believe that Kodak are still selling this pile of junk. I will be returning it and demanding a refund!
- 1.0 out of 5
I received this camera as a gift and thought wonderful, Kodak has always been the best for cameras. Little to my dismay in the middle of Chinese New Year's festivities (my first at that) It stopped working with the lens out. I tried 3 sets of new batteries and it did not rectify the problem. I have an older Kodak and will go back to using it as it's the best I have had. I would not recommend buying this camera at all, it's really not worth the trouble. Just thankful I have only had it a little while so the Warranty is still good.
- 1.0 out of 5
My stop powering on also. I feel so duped. I know $80 bucks isn't a lot to ask for a camera but I expect it to turn on. My mom is considering buying the ESP printer from TV I am going to tell her to forget about it. Kodak is no longer a name you can trust. And that's why I didn't do any research. I based my decision totally on a name. Never again. Thanks to everyone who put their complaint here. I started not to but I don't want them to make another penny off of this crap of a camera. I purchased this camera from Office Depot and I can't return it to them because it says I have to contact Kodak. This is awful.

I cannot believe this!!!! My dad bought me the Kodak Easy Share model #Z1085 for Hanukah. After taking 18 pictures and one videa, it stopped working. The last time I was able to trun it on, it did some funky thing and the screen had vertical lines all over it. We took it back to Office Max on 01.13.09 (after having it less than 30 days) and the sales guy argued with us. He kept insisting that this camera had a "rechargable" battery and there should have been a "recharging" station with it. The battery that came with the camera was NOT a rechargable one. After 10 minutes of arguing, we finnaly convinced the stupid sals guy and he says, "Oh.....sorry.....you have an older model.....it must just be the battery...." He goes and grabs a pack of Duracel Ultra's and puts one in the camera, looks at me and says in a snotty "you're just some dumb chick" tone, "next time, you need to buy these batteries yourself..." I stated to him that I would gladly pay for those today. To which he replied, "No, this time their on us." I get the camera home and what do you know........it turns on fine but now the dial on top of the camera that allows you to switch modes doesn't move anymore!!!! My dad brings it back to Office Max and the sales lady tells him, "Oh, we've had lots of problems with this one....." and then sells him the C813 Kodak Easy Share instead. My dad brought the camera to my house this morning. I tried putting the batteries in and....you'll love this.....the batteries that came in the box don't even fit into the camera!!!!! Once you get them "in" you can't close the battery compartment door......how crazy is that???? Is that even possible????? I tried one of my Durecell Ultra's (CR-V3) that are suppossed to also be able to fit in the camera and they're too big! What is going on over at Kodak? They used to have such great high quality cameras and film. Has anyone else had the same problems with either model????
- 1.0 out of 5
It looks like every Kodak didgital camera on the market is loaded with problems. I'm on my second one in less than a month. The first one would no longer power on even after new batteries were installed and the dial on top of the camera to switch modes would not turn......Now this one has to be returned because the batteries that it came with don't even fit into the batterry compartment. You can't even close the "door". I tried a Duracell Lithium (which can be used in the camera as well as AA) and it wouldn't fit. I have owned many "electronics" in my life and have NEVER had one where the batteries don't fit!! After this experience, I will never buy another Kodak.....

I was delighted to receive this camera for Christmas! But yesterday (1/13/09), my camera would not turn back on. I purchased new batteries and still could not turn it back on. I have to agree with Quin - 1/8/09 about a defect and I'm very disappointed.

This was a Christmas gift from "Santa" for my son and after two days it wouldn't turn on. Tried to take it back to Target where I purchased it, they didn't have anymore and didn't know when they would have them again. So off to Walmart. Got one there for more $$ and after a week it won't turn on either... The batteries are new and in the proper way so I guess this is a common defect in this particular model.

i just purchased this camera a month ago...its great!!! i have used it during our company christmas party and some other special occassion. it wont let me down!!! Just make sure to used a 2500 mAh rechargble battery... its recommended for all digicams ... overall its excellent !!!

okey so i got this for christmas and since im a kid, i thought it was pretty cool that it came in so many different colors. i had no problems for awhile, it would turn on automatically. but then, i would start to have to flip the batteries and get new ones for it to work. and then, once i got new ones: it wouldn't turn on at all. how lame? if your thinking about getting this camera, DON'T!

its a 50/50 % chance it will turn on or off. i went and exchanged it for the same one , and im having the exact same problem , only it wont turn on at all.

i got this camera for christmas and was so excited to find that it was the prettiest color of teal/aqua. I took about 30 pictures and two videos on it. Even then i sometimes had trouble turning the camera on. Now it won't turn on at all, and I'm very upset.

i had an issue with my camera one time and i contacted kodak and they sent me a new one weeks faster than i thought i would get it. since then it has been smooth sailing. and even before then i never had issues except the one I love my camera

I bought this camera in late June of 2008. I took many pictures over the following two months then one day it just didn't power up anymore. I sent it back and they provided me with a reburbished one. It worked for less than 1/2 hour. I sent that one back and they sent me a brand spanking new one. I took a few pictures to check it out and put it away for two days and now this one won't power up !!!! Yes, I replaced the batteries.
I don't think I am going to send it back - I have paid too much in shipping costs now.
Please, please, please, buy anything but this one.

I bought the camera on sunday, 12/14/08. On monday, I was trying to take a picture, the screen when crazy and now it won't power up ( turn on). I called the Kodak number for help and was instructed to try some lithiam batties?? I messured the Kodak batteries and they still have over 1.5 volts. They are good batteries. I tryed energizers with still no help. what? lithiam AA batteries have more that 1.5 volts? I don't like being treated like a idot on the phone and being ask to run around trying this and that when there is an obvious problem which is internal to the device! I was ready to exchange for another with no problem but now after my little conversation with the kodak help people, I just want a different product!

Not sure if there was a bad quality run since so many bad reviews about camera not turning on. No problems with mine at all. Easy to use features that my wife totally loves. Really great sub-$100 camera. LCD is hard to see while in the sunlight, would be nicer with a backlit lcd. But, it's less than $100... Really nice value for the money.

Camera has great features. We bought one at Office Depot 11/10/08. Worked for 1 day, then wouldn't turn on. 11/12/08 took back and got a replacement. 11/13/08 same problem again. Not trusting another one, since the birth of our baby is imminant and would like to actually have a photo of him as a newborn!! That's too bad because it took really good pictures the day that it worked.

I purchased this camera at the end of August by the start of October I had returned it because the screen looked like it imploded. I could still take photos with it but the screen was white with weird lines going through it and a great big dirty black spot. I got lucky I returned it to where I bought it from and they sent it back to Kodak who are replacing it with the C193. Hopefully I won't have any more problems.
- 2.0 out of 5
I need to echo the complaints of others here. If this camera worked the way it is supposed to, I would be thrilled. The features it offers versus the low (realatively speaking) cost make it a huge value, but if you can't turn it on it's just a waste of money. I bought a C713 at Office Depot and it failed after 3 days. I returned it and got my money back, then bought a brand new C813 on Ebay. After about a week it has stopped powering up. I can't return it, because I bought it on E-bay, and I don't know if Kodak will honor their warranty. I reccomend that you DO NOT BUY this camera until Kodak fixes this flaw. I've also read in other reviews that it has a problem with the viewscreens cracking. I haven't had that problem (but that's probably because I haven't had the camera loong enough!) If and when Kodak fixes the power-up problem this will be a great purchase, but until then AVOID AT ALL COST!
- 2.0 out of 5
I purchased this for my girlfriend since it is pretty easy to use and very straight forward. the first one I returned because it would not turn on. the second one worked for 3 months, just beyond the return date on the receipt. and then... you got it. it does not turn on. i have another c series that has worked for me for about 3 years, and continues to work. so I would have to guess this model is just a problem. I would definately purchase another kodak, but not this model.

My camera was bought less than one months ago, and I had to return it twice because it won't turn on... Batteries are changed.
- 5.0 out of 5
I am not sure what the bad reviewers are talking about here. I bought a re-charger with 2500 mAh batteries and have taken 250 plus pictures (many with flash) before the batteries ran low. As for the quality of the photos... fantastic! I tend to think the root of the problem of some of the "complainers" of this camera may be the user. Read the instructions.... experiment with the camera testing all of the different settings... then all should be well! A lot of camera for the buck. The video quality is pretty good on it as well!

Background on the reviewer (for point of view sake): I have been using digital cameras since 2000. My first camera was a 2.1 MP Fujifilm. At the time, it was the most advanced MP unless you were a serious photographer. I graduated from that to a Canon Power Shot G1 (pseudo SLR) which was my favorite. Since then, I've bounced around between a few different cameras and haven't found any that were "just right". I also do some amateur photo enhancing and graphic design.
I knew this camera (Kodak C813) wasn't going to be "it" for me but I thought I'd give an inexpensive option a try. Keep in mind that this level of camera is probably not a good choice for my level of experience with digital cameras.
Here are my findings:
Pros: Price! Menus are easy to navigate. Lightweight.
Cons: Uses AA Batteries*. Small LCD. No optical viewfinder (many compact & ultra compacts do not have one). Noisy. Slow to focus. Slow to zoom.
*AA Batteries - I find this wasteful unless you are using rechargeable batteries. These types of batteries are heavy to carry spares for extended trips.

We purchased two of these cameras for our business. We have to e-mail a lot of pictures to customers. We tried them out right away to test pictures quality. They turned out very grainy and when I downloaded the pictures to the computer it froze it up 3 times. We returned both cameras to the store and got something else.
- 4.0 out of 5
it just i used it 3 times and the flash went out
it wont flash anymore so i have to take it to geek squad or something to fix it but overall its great
- 1.0 out of 5
I only used it three times and took less than 15 pics. I put it away and took the batteries out until I could afford rechargeables. I need to take a pic so I got it out put new batteries in it. It took one pic and then shut off by its self immediately and then wouldn't come back on. So I thought maybe the batteries I bought had been on the shelf too long so I bought some good batteries but still it would not turn on. I tried couple other packs of new batteries thinking still it had to be the batteries since not only is it a new camera but also a kodak. But NOTHING. I am really surprised beint hat it is Kodak that they are producing such crap. I should have bought a no name brand and I would probably be happily using it right now. Will never buy Kodak again.

I bought my camera from EBay. It worked great for about a month until my 2 year old son dropped it as he was handing it to me. Once it fell to the floor, I started getting error messages on the screen, and the lens would not close all the way. When I went online searching for a fix, several internet sites suggesting "hitting" the bottom of the camera with the palm of my hand. Needless to say, I am now returning this camera to buy a reburshed camera from the Kodak website.
I found out that Kodak does not make the "greatest" cameras, as most of the EasyShare cameras are made overseas with plastic parts...but what do you expect for a $90 camera.

I've owned 4 digital cameras in 2 years, and this by far is the best camera i've owned for the price. I paid under $100 and love it. The picture and movie quality are excellent and very ease to navigate menus. On top of that I love the quick use buttons so if you want to review your pics you don't have to go into the menu.

Got Camera at Christmas and it takes good pictures.
The 2 greatest problems is can not see the camera screen when out doors and it has no view finder. The video portion is terrible when shooting outdoors. Anytime there is a reflection of sunlight I get streaks in video. This also happens when taking pictures outside or even inside if there is a bright enough light.

The Kodak C813 isn't too bad for a camera in this price class compared to camera in the same price range.
Picks: Uses AA batteries, small, flexible optical zoom/digital zoom, large LCD viewfinder, easy to navigate menus, nice solid feel, can take short movie clips with sound, effective auto-focus and exposure.
Pans: Takes only fair pictures-my guess is to meet this price point a inexpensive lens and CCD sensor were used, CCD is quite noisy-digital noise is evident in all photographs even ones taken in bright sunlight, Your PC once connected through USB will not recognize it; use of Easy Share is required to download photos via USB, Battery and SD memory card share the same door, LCD display washes out in bright sunlight, No optical viewfinder.
The C813 and less expensive C713 are entry level digital cameras, although Kodaks boasts it has an 8.1 MP sensor it's quality is poor, keep in mind - it's not the megga-pixels that govern how well a camera works, it's the quality of the equipment. This camera is proof positive of that.
For a casual user on a budget who wants to take pictures and isn't critical of performance I could with reservation recommend the Kodak C813, but if you are a more advanced user with a critical eye- I would suggest that you check out higher end models in Kodak's line.

I got the camera and I really enjoyed it. I loved it, until I tried to watch my movie clips. It is aweful that they chose to put the video clips in .mov, you can't watch them. I wish it were at least an option to choose how you save your videos.

I bought this camera for my wife as a Christmas gift. She has been wanting one for some time. Not very technically inclined, my wife found the camera simple to use and operate. We've found that it takes great pictures and it give you the ability to adjust the resolution of the pictures you take. Wonderful low light resolution and the ability to take video make this camera a super value for the price. I'd recomend to anyone novice or pro.... I might buy one for myself du to the fact I can never get my hands on my wife's
