This camera does not age well. (rhubarb — 06/05/2009)

Worked great for the first two years, then the scroll button would not work in some directions. Now the CCD chip is blown and all pictures have a pink tint unless you lower exposure compensation down to -2.0. Not worth repairing. Won't buy Kodak again.

CX7430 many problems (Kathy — 05/05/2009)

I have had numerous problems with this camera almost since the day I got it. It will not work outside in the winter. No matter what I do to keep it warm. It eats batteries like crazy, even the rechargeable don't last. The shutter was stuck half open for about a year and now the shutter will not open at all. I bought an easy dock to print pictures and it dosen't work either. I have reinstalled the software a number of times and occasionally I can get it to work. The camera does not fit tight on the dock. I would not reccomend this camera

Software sucks!!! (Mike — 01/23/2009)

I can't say much about the pictures it takes, actually I am pleased with that part. Had my computer updated and tried for seven hours to get the software downloaded only to get "error code 14x21x1157x" over and over again. Went through every Kodak site and information I could find to no avail. Basically have a camera now with no program to use it. Never again to Kodak if I don't get this problem fixed.

Dependable Quality Pictures (Terry Smith — 01/10/2009)

I've enjoyed this camera immensely. It small enough to keep with you at all times, just in case. It will fit in some pockets and it takes excellent pictures. I've saved irreplaceable photos with this camera and I would recommend it to anyone. If you're really into taking pictures you will probably outgrow it some day. I did. But for what it offers and delivers on, I couldn't recommend it higher.

Good Camera to own (Marie Keffer — 03/17/2008)

I have had this camera for 4 1/2 years. I have taken over 200,000 pictures with this camera. It is a great invention from Kodak. i would buy another one. My shutter will not open sometimes but with all things, they don't last forever, i have gotten my money back from it, because they pictures are worth a thousand words and that is a very true saying.

Eats batteries and does not Focus (DW — 08/16/2007)

Camera is ok, but eats batteries like no tomorrow and will not focus consitantly. Also, red eye feature does not work at all at any time.

Very reliable (Richard Sheerman — 04/08/2007)

I've used this camera for two years, and have not had a problem; it's been great for my Ebay business.

battery always low (Steve — 02/21/2007)

This camera in my opinion is a piece of junk. I had bought two of these, one for a relative, and at almost the same time both cameras started saying the batteries are bad regardless of the fact I had brand new batteries installed. It then will shut off on me. I am completely disgusted with this Kodak camera and will never again buy a Kodak product. I am going back to Sony.

Lens Problems (D. S. Robson — 01/30/2007)

Enjoyed the camera for 30 months then suddenly the lens ceased working ( would not extend and would not open ). Installed four different sets of new batteries all to no avail. A camera priced in this range should last longer than 2 and half years. Last Kodak I will ever buy, so much for North American Engineering, my next one will be from the East.

farewell to kodak (Johanna — 01/28/2007)

Camera was fine for the first 8-10 months, but stopped working awhile ago. It sounds like it powers on, but none of the camera functions or buttons work. This camera has definitely slipped into a COMA — time to let go. (My HP and Canon cameras are great!)

red lines on the pictures (jennifer — 01/02/2007)

This camera was great, it gave us lots of good clear pictures. Now it has lots of redish horizontal lines going across the LCD screen and they show up in the pictures. We've had those shutter problems too. Not bad camera but now we have to look for a new one.

Problem in viewing close up mode (D.Sundararaju — 12/20/2006)

Earlier instances when I was focusing with half press of shutter button i could get clear focus with very good clarity. But now I am facing erratic clarity. i.e. in some occasion I used to get clarity in the focus but subsequent focus with blur in the focused area. why it so? any solution for this problem.

Shutter Stuck (Ben Gerold — 11/13/2006)

We were very please with this camera until... the shutter stuck. Sound Familiar. Kodak was no help. And this will be my last kodak.

had for nearly 2 years (Jenn — 10/31/2006)

This camera was great for photos and video until the flash poo-poo'd out and took very dark indoor photos and the LCD developed vertical lines in it. Overall pretty satisfied with it, took hundreds of photos with it and plan to upgrade.

excellent camera (claudette — 10/30/2006)

This is my second kodak camera and I'm looking to upgrade to one with more optical. I have won awards for pictures taken with this camera. It is an excellent camera and I have had no problems with it .

Problem camera (Jeff Askew — 10/03/2006)

We have had problems with lens staying out, and camera would not operate for a while shortly after we got it, I was about to send it back, when it started working again and was ok for about a year, then it started sticking again and turning off, unable to use, to the landfill it goes. Overall picture quality was good, battery life was excellent, as long as not using the display, we have probably taken 1500 pictures with this before complete failure. Not recommended on life expectancy,

Won't Stay On and Lens Stuck Fully Extended (Darlene Wieseler — 08/12/2006)

I have had this camera until now with no problems, but now have a camera that doesn't work. The shutter and lens are fully extended... and stuck that way. When I turn the camera on it then turns itself off again and stays like that. It did this about 8 months ago but started working again. This time, I bought a new lithium battery and still no luck. Time to through it away - a camera should work longer than this!!!

My Kodak Easy Share CX7430 failed 3 times in the first 18 months. Purchased 12/04, it quit working 9/05. Shipped to Kodak & they replaced the MCU board. Quit again 10/05. Shipped to Kodak & they replaced the Power PCB. Asked Kodak for replacement camera & they refused. Has never been dropped, immersed, etc. Quit again 6/06. Shipped to land fill. Live & learn- don't buy Kodak.

Stay away from Kodak.... (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

My husband and I bought two cameras. One for us and one for our daughter. Both camera's have developed problems!!!!!! One is a shutter problem like the other people have stated and the other one is a malfunction of the buttons to delete etc. I am very disappointed that both cameras would have this type of problem so soon. I am sick to think we have just pretty much flushed some money down the toilet. I will be sure not to buy a kodak ever ever again!!!!!

Takes pro-quality pictures (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Recently, I made my thirtieth professional sale as a photographer, every photograph taken with the CX7430. Many of these photographs have been reproduced in a slick trade journal with astonishing success. While 4.0 megapixels would undoubtedly be sneered at by some of the higher-end magazine markets, it worked just fine for the trade mag I write for. The camera is ideal for taking along on interviews. It slips nicely in a pocket, and the 128 MB card allows me to shoot a lot of photographs, enough to make up for the inevitable goofs.

My only kick is that it doesn't do well in low-light situations, and the ability to add a more powerful flash would be very much appreciated. Another thing would, of course, be more zoom, but 3X is what most low-end digital cameras offer.

Thanks to the sales I've made with the CX7430, I can think about moving up. But I will never give this camera up. It's reliable, it's convenient, and it does a very good job.

Rip off (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

We have had this camera for only 2 yr. then it suddenly stopped working. The display screen stopped working. Even with fresh batteries, the green light blinks on, but then you cannot operate camera at all. Very upset. Had to buy another camera, Kodak offered to take my camera if I shelled out $129.95 for a refurbished camera. (Are they serious?) I am not ever buying Kodak again!!

Was good, now awful! (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I really liked this camera at first but found too many issues with it and now it wont even turn on!

I had t replaced once because the lens and shutter werent working right. Started working ok and now a year later having same issues again and cant take any quality pictures. Turns off on me all the time and most recently I cant get the thing to stay on! New batteries and all it just doesnt want to work. I'm extremely dissapointed and cant believe I wasted my money on it!

broken shutter (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This camera is easy to use, good for close-ups. After one year of heavy use, it is suddenly turning off and the shutter will not close. Sometimes it will not turn on at all, other times it works fine, except for not shutting down properly. It does use batteries quickly. Lithium seems to work the longest.

Don't depend on Kodak if you want pictures (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

If you want to take pictures, don't take this Kodak camera. The book is of some help but new problems continually happen. By the time you read the book to correct the problem, the photo op is gone.

Shutter problems as well (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I have owned this camera for 1 year and after 6 months of using it, it started shutting off when it wanted to even with new batteries. With these shutter problems we now need a new RELIABLE camera....I will not by Kodak again!

Excellent Camera for Novice users (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

Great Camera for the money and great pictures. Would like more optical zoom. This unit is great for people who are new to digital cameras. It's very easy to use. I haven't had any problems since I used it and I have taken more than 4000+ shots. I highly recommend buying rechargeable Metal Hydride 1800 or higher. It won't last on Alkaline batteries. It has a lot of options when taking pictures in different environments. If you use the camera and its options properly, you will always get perfect shots.

Good camera except for program it uses for clips (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

They should of made the camera able to work with movie maker. I had to download a free program to convert the clips into a mpeg so I am able to use movie maker. It would just be easier if they made it compatible in the first place.

Other then that, I really like this camera

Shutter has probs (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I thought it was a good camera until I started having problems with the shutter. The damn thing wont open sometimes, and when it does it wont open all the way. You have to knock the camera to get it to open all the way!

Software a nightmare (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

The software prevents for basic use of pictures. It is so poorly designed it should be renamed to "no-share", "easy virus share", "share personal information", "only ofoto share", can' share....and I could go on. The pictures are acceptable, must change batteries every 10-15 min, but the software is tragic. No more Kodak anything.

Works when it wants to (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This camera reminds me of my first husband. It only works when it wants to. Just when you think you can depend on it, it crashes and it won't budge. Kodak and I are seperating. Its shutters opens when it wants to.

Worst camera (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

When I purcahsed it I was happy and showing it to everyone. But very disappointed after one drop..just one drop of water went inside. It screwed the whole camera and me too. I went to different repairers and everyone says not to buy Kodak again. Kodak repair center charges more than 95$. What a worst service. In 129$ new camera is available...Works good if nothing goes wrong.

Shutter does not open (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

best ive ever used. (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This camera has everything I needed. I love how you can zoom in on a picture that youve allready taken..if you position everything right you get get 100 different pics from one shot. The video and sound is great. The printer is so easy to use. I automatically started using it, it takes no time to figure out.

This camera is the best I have had so far (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I went from a DX3700 to this, and we are so pleased. what really got us was that the video movies are really nice looking and with sound!ones you can send to family. The camera is fast at taking pictures and does a great job at catching our kids running around and playing with is action setting. The pictures are crisp and we can definitely tell the difference in the image quality. The digital zoom kinda sucks, but you will hardly have to use it. The camera has allot of options for picture taking in the setup menu, and I haven't used many of them yet.The movie making software for kodak is "ok" I have made 2 movies so far with it but I am looking for some better ones to use. It doesn't really give you allot of options. you can incorporate sound and also splice small clips togother which is nice.I tried to use windows movie maker with it also but it wont read the AVI fmt. But I was able to make a picture slide show (with movie maker) and incorporate it into the ending of one of my videos with kodak software.(worked once and not again) It was really a PIA to do this and the easy share software froze allot, so i wouldn't suggest trying it. all in all it's a great camera, the flaw is in the kodak movie software.

Drop it--And it still works (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I brought this camera after borrowing my friend's earlier version. They are great! Self explanatory and easy to use. I did use a 128MB card and it took about 150-200 pics on each card (I didn't use the highest resolution). I took it on vocation with me and download the pic to CD's. I drop the camera, the case cracked a little open but it still worked.

Love this camera! (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I have had my Kodak EasyShare CX7430 for a year now and absolutely love it! It is so easy to use, my ten year old can take great pictures! We went to Puerto Vallarta in December and the pictures we took there looked like professional magazine pictures! We also went to Disneyworld in June and the pictures I took were as good, if not better, than the photographers Disney employs. The only complaint I would have is the "click-to-click" time—you have to wait about 30 seconds after taking a picture before you can take another one. (of course, this problem occurs with almost all digital cameras, so it's not just this model).

Best camera ever (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I think i sent it to the right place. The person was going yo send me a e-mail con fermation never did. I do not like Kodak's service would not buy kodak again I have not received any word about the cost to repair camera after one week. I will have to pay as my sales slip is lost.

service is crap: camera is worse! (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

This pos camera and printer dock is proof that Amerrica is no longer a nation that prides itself on quality service or product! This camera has been trouble since day 1 and the service, IN INDIA, is poor. If you have a problem and live in the West you are genuinely screwed. The warranty will not be honored at any time and the one year expiration means a large service charge. Can you say...NIKON?

Great camera for the money (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

My first camera was a piece of junk. I got what I paid for. I just got this camera with the camera dock and it is very easy to use. I just wish it had a better zoom lens. Not good for taking long shots. I am going to Germany next month and plan on taking this camera along. I plan on practicing more before then.

Good cameras, but had some trouble.. (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I really like this camera, but I noticed that one time I took about 10 pictures in a row almost and then it just shut off and wouldn't come back on for an hour. Later we had trouble with the computer installation, however it finally began working.

  • 3.0 out of 5
Weak flash, poor parts quality, pretty good pictures (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

First of all, the pros. The camera takes really good pictures when there is enough natural light to make the flash unnecessary. I have produced some stunning macro shots of individual flowers, and the color balance seems to be excellent. The user interface is easy to use, and the autofocus and exposure are excellent.

The cons: 1. My battery door broke 5 months after I got it, even though I hadn't used it roughly at all. I attribute this to a weak design and recommend that you be VERY VERY gentle with your doors and buttons and such. They seem to be weak.

2. The user interface, though it is easy, gives entirely too little control. I realize that this is a point-and-shoot camera, but I should not have to go through 3 menus just to set the exposure up a few stops to get a decent picture of a sunset (which I don't have yet.) Anybody who knows how to use a camera which has adjustable aperture and shutter speed will soon regret the point-and-shoot interface.

3. THE FLASH IS TERRIBLE. The camera has no provision for an external flash, and its flash is not at all bright enough to provide decent exposure. Even at full wide angle, I have to be within 5-8 feet of my subject to get a decent flash. Also, the camera's flash doesn't recharge in less than about 10 seconds once you've fired it, but the camera doesn't know it. I shoot 3 pictures which had a half-flash or no flash to ever 1 that flashed brightly, and the camera doesn't keep you from trying or even warn you.

If you do a lot of outdoor vacation stuff and are gentle with the parts, it is an excellent shooting camera. My main grudges against it are its weak flash and its flimsy design and its lack of manual control.

PLEASE email me if you have a different experience.

Fantastic pictures, excellent print quality, easy to use, video option a big bonus (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

My wife and I bought the Easy Share two weeks ago. We purchased a 256 MB memory card (a must) and 4 AA NiMH batteries and charger (another must). We haven't used the software because our computer is ancient (no USB port). We simply visit our local Wal-Mart, pop in the memory card, pick the pictures we want printed and voila - beautiful pictures right away (or in an hour - which is the less expensive way to go). This just proves you don't need the printer dock or a fancy computer to enjoy this camera. Bottom line: we love our camera and are having a ton of fun using it. So are our kids. We are very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend this camera to anyone.

disappointed (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

When I first bought this camera, I was really happy with it cause no doubt it takes good pictures. but after using it a few days, I noticed at some parts of the camera, the color was coming off. Then, another problem I found out was that this camera does not work in cold rooms (air-conditioned). at first I thought it was because the battery was low, I fully charged it and tried again..but it still displays the warning low battery. and after a few shots, it turns off. I even bought new alkaline batteries to test it with the camera, and it also displays the low batt warning. How is that possible..the batteries are new..has anyone experience this..or is it just another bad luck for me? I've so far purchased 4 digital cameras of different brands..and each are giving me problems..

Zoom shutter does not open (anonymous — 07/18/2006)

I received this camera for Christmas and a few weeks later the shutter for the zoom would not open therefore the camera would not take pictures or allow me to view pictures in my memory. So I returned it and now a month later the new camera is having the exact same problem. Neither camera has been damaged, dropped, or used improperly. I'm very aggravated.

Fun, easy and very affordable camera (anonymous — 07/18/2006)
Great camera for the price you pay. Easiest camera out there to use. EasyShare software makes transferring, organizing, emailing, and editing pictures so easy. Quality of the pictures is excellent. Low light pictures using night mode are hard to keep from being a little fuzzy. Good battery life for NiMH batteries. Fun, easy and very affordable camera. I fully recommend it for a first time digital camera buyer.
