Kodak EasyShare V1073 IS Comments & Questions (write your own!)
You can try resetting your camera, update your firmware, but the issue to me is one of calibration, not procedure. And it's not really cheap.
I must say this is the worst camera I have ever owned. It has screwed up so many endless times and I am very gentle with it. I was wondering if I possibly got a faulty camera? It came with pictures of a living room on it. I bought it at Wal-Mart. Has anyone had the same experience?
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN...
DO NOT BUY A KODAK CAMERA...YOU WILL REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
FROM THE TIME WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY V1073 ON 11/18/2008, THE ZOOM BUTTON HAS, FAILED, BROKE(WILL NOT WORK). WHEN I CALL KODAK, THEY HAVE DECIDED TO REPLACE IT WITH A REFURBISHED V1073. THE ZOOM BUTTON HAS STILL FAILED ON THE REPLACEMENT CAMERA(S). THE AFTER 4-5 REPLACEMENTS THEY DECIDED TO GIVE ME A REFURBISHED V1273. GUESS WHAT,
THAT ZOOM BUTTON HAS FAILED, BROKE(WILL NOT WORK) ALSO, NOW I HAVE BEEN CALLING KODAK CO. FOR 15 MONTHS,AND THEY NOW CLAIM THAT I AM THE ONE THAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE, PROBLEM. FOR 15 MONTYHS, KODAK HAS TRIED TO MISLEAD ME, NOT BEING TRUTHFUL. THEY ALSO TELL ME THAT THEY WILL SEND ME A Z1485 CAMERA, TO GET OUT OF THE V1073/1273. I AM STILL WAITING SINCE 10-08-2009 (4 MONTHS). I STILL HAVE NOW RECIEVED IT. ONE TIME THEY SENT ME SOME CAMERA THAT WAS NEVER AGREED UPON, JUST OUT OF THE BLUE...SINCE I NEW IT WAS A MISTAKE, I CALLED THEM UP AND SENT IT BACK TO THEM, THEY TOLD ME THAT OH, WE DO NOT HAVE THE Z1485 THIS IS YOUR REPLACEMENT...
THAT IS LIKE ME GOING TO A RESTURANT AND ORDERING A HAMBURGER, AND THEY GIVE ME A CHEESBURGER. I DID NOT ORDER A CHEESEBURGER.
NOW THERE SENIOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS SPECIALIST, HAS DECIDED TO NOT HELP ME. I TOLD HER THAT YOU AND I WILL AGREE TO DISAGREE, SO CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME TALK OR EMAIL YOUR BOSS. SHE HAS REFUSED. SHE DECIDED THAT THIS NEED TO BE HADLE BY THERE WORLD WIDE CORP. SERCURITY DEPT.
THAT IS TOTAL CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.
GUESS WHAT............I AM STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THAT DEPT.
I GOT MORE TIME THAN MONEY. IN ENDING, FROM MY LIPS, TO GODS EARS "I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A KODAK PRODUCT AGAIN, AND EVERY CHANCE I HAVE, TO TELL SOMEONE NOT TO BUY A KADAK CAMERA OR MY STORY, I WILL."
"IF YOU DO NOT HELP YOUR CUSTOMERS, SOMEONE ELSE WILL."
This is mainly a backup camera since I now have a DSLR, but I like to have a small one to carry around with me.
I will say that I've had a lot going on and haven't been very persistent and since I have waited too long to pursue anything, the warranty is up, so I can only blame myself for that.
I am very unhappy with Kodak and will be purchasing a different brand.
1) Press the Menu button (the one in the center on the back of the camera) you will have the menu on the screen.
2) press the icon on the upper right corner on the screen (that will take you to the setup menu)
3) Scroll down the menu until you see an Icon with a buble text and the letters ABC inside it
4) Select the first option on the list (that is English)

SHORT ANSWER: Both Canon and Nikon are good cameras, they are the result of much R&D as well as market experience. Both are renowned for their lens manufacturing. I prefer the Canon line, I have 3 of them, 2 Nikons, 1 Casio and 2 Sony camcorders. The next camera I buy will be a Canon.
I'm not sure about Kodak's past, but I like my camera. The only problem I have with it is the battery life will only last to fill up my 8GB card (about 3000 pics) in a day. or if I go screwing with the options for hours on end, like I did when I first got it
Thank you..
Many times, if you put photos in their own folder, you will be unable to view them on the camera. My best advice to you is to download the photos you don't want someone to see to your computer.

Meanwhile, the NYT has an interesting article ( nytimes.com/2007/05/10/tech... ) on shutter lag and how to combat it.
It's called shutter lag ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutt... ). It's the delay which happens between triggering the shutter and when the photograph is actually recorded. It's a common problem with point and shoot cameras. But there are ways to combat it.
1. Prefocus. Hold down the shutter half way to get a prefocus of the image you're shooting. When it changes, prefocus again. This will speed up your camera's performance during picture taking since it won't have to autofocus before it shoots the shot.
2. Use faster SD cards. Yes, there are faster cards and it does make a difference in writing the image file to the card. This is especially key if you're taking multiple or burst images.
3. Fresher batteries. Use alkalines at least. But I recommend using high energy batteries designed for digital photography. Varta is a good brand. They are usually sold in camera shops, are long lasting (because they are sold in small quantities) put out alot of energy.
4. Pan with the action. You can create some pretty cool shots by panning with your shot, focusing on your subject. This will create the effect of your subject in sharp contrast to the blurry background.
6. Stick with 100-400 ISO. Going higher will cause more noise/grain in your shots, particularly in darker settings.
Doing these, particularly prefocusing and panning with the action will cut your shutter lag by as much as 80%.
The good news is that according to recent news articles, many camera companies will be incorporating the CCD chips they use in their SLR lines (which give no shutter lag) into their point and shoot cameras. So look for it within the next few years.
As for the V1073, the shutter lag is rated by Kodak at 0.2 second(s). But understand that this is under ideal conditions in a test lab and probably doesn't take into account fatigued batteries, slower card writing times, etc. So I'd at least double that figure for a more realistic estimate.
try the panasonic ls80
it has special baby modes which should help you get some good shots
But I think your instincts to return the Casio is a good idea as I've read many complaints about Casio's quality.

I got this camera for my b-day and since I have had the camera I have had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE! I already sent it in for repair because it just stopped working on me and got it back after a good 1 1/2 months and now guess what? I have to send it back in because its not working again! I don't recommend that anyone buy this camera.

I bought the camera for it's video capabilities, which I have not been thrilled with. The pictures are, however, rather sharp and clear, but the shutter is so exceptionally slow that by the time it fires, the shot is gone. It is a good 2-3 seconds after I press the shutter button before the camera takes the shot. OK for scenery, but not too good for the baby.

This is the worst camera I've ever owned and I've owned my fair share of cameras. The zoom stopped working after 3 months and shortly after that, my shutter button stopped working. Don't let the touchscreen fool you into buying the camera because what good is the screen if it has no picture on it. Unless you planed on playing with the menu.

i was lucky to get this camera for $150 at target on clearance and im so happy with it
its got so many features for different conditions as well as ISOs. It also got video hd mode which is so good for recording movies in 720pb which is really handy and what else is there to say
it doesnt delay for taking pics and turns on and off very quickly :)
+ its got one year warranty so for those who say it turns off or shutsdown u can always repair it :D

Don't buy this camera! it's cheaply made, all plastic, takes grainy pictures, and stopped working after just 1 month! :(

My complaint is the same as that of a number of other negative reviewers here:after working fine for a short period, the camera shuts down as soon as you turn it on. I returned it to the store where I bought it and got my money back. Kodak has a catch 22 in their warranty; you take the risk that they will claim it was dropped and then want $80. or more to fix it. If you opt not to have it repaired they charge you $49. and since you wont pay that amount to get a broken camera back, they keep it, repair it and resell it. I didn't rate it "terrible" because it takes great pics when it's working but judging from my and others' experience it's very unreliable. In addition, it has no view finder and you can't see the screen in bright sunlight, so you're shooting blind.

I bought the first model at best buy and it stopped working before one year was up ( would not turn on). The model was discontinued and was given the V1073 to replace it. The zoom button stopped working after 9 months and I was able to have it repaired for free. 30 days after that the screen is now blank and shuts off instantly. I will never by Kodak digital cameras again!

THIS IS THE WORST CAMERA.....I EVER EXPERIENCED.......

I bought this camera a few days before I went on a trip to Toronto. It held up really great, I was really surprised with the photo quality. The selling point for me was how well built it was(not some cheap piece of plastic that feels like its going to break in your hands), plus the touchscreen is an excellent feature. I mostly shoot videos and I have been highly impressed with the video quality, especially for the price of the camera! 5 star rating from me, it comes recommended!

I have never been absolutely thrilled with the camera. My main problem was that I expected really crisp pictures due to the 10 megapixels, but that was not the case. Many pictures turn out either completely blurry, or not as clear as they should be. The color quality is not the best either. Another problem i've had is that it won't stay on. I've charges it overnight, but when i turn it on, it immediately turns off...and i haven't figured out how to fix this problem yet. So basically, i'm stuck w/ a useless camera...definitely not worth the money!

I had this camera all of one month before it stop working on a family trip to Universal Studio. When I first sent the camera back to kodak or precision the repair company it took them three week to return it and they still return the camera broken. I return the camera a 2nd a week after I got it back from them and this time they said my warranty is voided and said I drop the camera which I hadn't used since the first month of having. I argued with Kodak and the repair company before they agreed to fix again. I just got it back yesterday and the camera is still not working it over heat when I charge it turns into a piece of heated metal with 30 min of charging. Stay away from this product if you value quality.

I also have a Sony Cyber Shot 10PM and had an HP 8.1 MP and this one beats my Sony by a mile. The sony is a little more complicated and the screen is cluttered with all these little symbols that you have to have to book to figure out, the Kodak V1073 does not. When you see a symbol you know what it means. Great Camera for mature adults that have shaking issues, pictures still perfectly clear. I LOVE IT!

I own the kodak v1073 and so far it has been a good camera. It froze up on me one time and all I did was take the battery out and put back in and it hasn't froze any other time. I bought 2 extra batteries, beacuse the batteries don't last no more then 3 hours if the camera is in constant use. Every thing on this camera is user friendly. The picture quality is excellent. The only problem I see with the camera is that you cannot see the screen very well out in the sunlight. I bought a pop-up shade for the camera and it didn't help the problem with the LCD screen. But all in all it is a fun camera to use. I have a Nikon D50 SLR camera and I love that camera too . I choose the Kodak v1073 to have a camera to slip in the palm of my hands and into my pocket. I love the touchscreen. My printed pictures come out great with this kodak camera.

I am using V 1073 since last 6 months and this camera suffers from hanging problem. Kodak recently exchange with new one saying there was manufacturing defect it that camera.
Lets see its performance now.

Awesome camera. Takes quick pictures for bike races, no blur at maximum resolution. Low light function makes it so I can see that hottie at the dance floor without a flash. and The burst mode makes it so I can ALLWAYS get that awesome picture of my kid with his eyes open. The only problem I have with it is that it's not waterproof and after an entire day and night at the lake the battery will die, so be sure that you bring your charger when camping (does not use normal batteries)

I have to say I'm surprised. I didn't really care for the Kodak digital cameras prior to this one and was an Olympus fan. This camera has been good since I've had it. I think it needs more work on my own part to figure out some of the features to fine-tune things a little better. I got a HD 8mg SD card in it so I can take longer videos with still photos at concerts, games or wherever we are. It has frozen up with me once. I called Kodak since it's still under the 1-year warranty. I took the battery out. It reset it and it works fine again. I did get the 2-year extended warranty from Walmart. I usually don't do that, but I did it due to the touchscreen. I have two children and feared it getting scratched, etc. Most of the photos I took came out very nicely. It sometimes looks blurry before taking the photo on the screen, but then when you look at the screen once the photo has been taken it works well. I like not having to put in AA batteries all the time so the rechargeable feature is great and seems to last a LONG time (this is only the 2nd time I've charged it since December and I've used it quite a bit). I worried about the zoom since I do genealogy and had a nice Olympus zoom camera prior to this one that worked great. This camera works great, too even tho the zoom strength isn't as strong.

had the camera 4 months and it has froze up and does nothing, but on the good side before hand it was exclent quality and tuch screen was cool also. I've had 3 kodaks and this one kinda disapoints me, as my others worked even after being droped once or twice and this one do nothing and it freezes up. =(

I love the new Kodak V1073. The touchscreen works great and the picture quality is just unbelievable! So crystal clear!

This camera takes great shots & touch menu works good also.
The problem is after you insert a memory card you don't know how many pictures you have on the card, or if is even working because there is no information.. # of pictures ect..

This camera is very confusing im a tech specialist at offce depot and i have sold this camera to about ten people giving it the best specs that i can. Since none were returned (back to my store at least) i purchased the camera and its not user friendly at all

I own the Kodak v1253, Canon Sx100 IS and also Sony Cybershot T70, and out of these my new favorite is without question the v1073! This Camera is a beauty to operate, takes super quick snap-shots, the Touch Screen is just Amazing (makes everything sooo simple), and the Optical Image Stabilization really helps with on the move shots to make sure every Pic comes out crystal clear! The ISO options on this Cam are great! I bumped up the ISO's to take some night shots lastnight and every Pic came out gorgeouse! I can't say enough about em!
The Camera is about the same size as a box of Marlboro cigarettes, much smaller then pictures make it out to be. The shape of the Cam is one of my favorite features! It's not to long, not to thick, the bottons are perfectly positioned (not many bottons as the Touch Screen takes care of this), and the feel of the v1073 in the hands is just wonderful!
As far as outside? It's not as difficult to see the screen in the sun-light as the reviewer below makes it out to be, any Cam with the sun shinning on the LCD screen is going to be hard to see, although I will say you can not see the screen as detailed as say the Cybershot T70, but as a Touch-Screen Cam this is the price Kodak sacrificed. I will say I have shot numerous times already in pretty sunny conditions, and have no complaints whatsoever.
All in all I feel Kodak has out-done themselves on this one! It's super simple, super fast, super small, and just plain fun to play with! This is my new baby, I will have no problem handing over my other Cams to my son or my wife now (only if they ask; well, beg!.lol).
Good Day

I am not a professional but I love to take pictures of my 4 kids. This camera is too square and I took it outside yesterday afternoon with full sunlight and could not see the LCD screen at all. The zoom button is in a awkward place and is awkward to use. All in all I am trying to figure out which camera I will but to replace it. I have had about 6 different Kodak cameras and liked them all and have had 2 Canon and I still prefer the Kodak ease of use.
