Kodak EasyShare Z1085 IS Comments & Questions (write your own!)
GOODLUCK everyone Yooo
As the digital file is marked by a date and time when it's saved, the use of a date stamp feature in digital cameras has lost popularity amongst camera manufacturers as a feature. Sorry, but the AS710A's postcard feature may be the best you can do unless you're willing to add the date/time after the fact.
One notable exception of late is the Kodak Kodak Z1085IS ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) which can print the date on the photo in a very inobtrusive manner. It's rather nice if you need it. My only beef of the camera is that it doesn't have a viewfinder. But outside of that, this may be a good option.
Not what I was hoping for but it makes sence as I have had a hard time finding any camera at all that adds the date.
yes it can record in hd at 848 x480 fps
check this out ( www2.panasonic.com/consumer... ).
2. does the wind reduction on the audio really help?
3. Isn't there a time-lapse mode where you can record video at like 2 FPS?
4. How long is the battery life? should I get anothr battery if I'm gonna be out with it all day?
5. What memory card do you recommend? I have a SanDisk Ultra II 4.0 GB memory card (SDHC), is that good enough?
2. I doubt that this feature will perform as well as you hope. These cameras have video as a marketing feature and as such, the mics are fairly omnidirectional and low end. So even though the wind reduction will help, the quality of the audio makes it rather a pheric advantage.
3. Time lapse is not mentioned as a feature in the specs.
4. Canon specs out the battery life as Still Image: approx. 160 shots (NB-4L/LCD on)*, Playback Time Approx. 240 min. (NB-4L)*. Since those are Canon's specs, I'd cut that by at least a third.
5. You card should work just fine. 4 gigs is a lot of memory, even for video since most of your clips will be 10 secs or less. allow me to make an pitch for using several cards, rather than one large one. Reason being, insurance. Any memory card can fail or become corrupted. And when you're on vacation the last thing you want is to lose the opportunity to take pictures until you can recover that media card with a software utility. If your card goes bad, swapping another one for it at that moment is of advantage so you can keep taking pics. Then, later when you're in front of your PC, you can use a utility like "F-Recovery" ( [url=filerecoverytools.com/produ... ) to get back your pictures and recover your card.
No need to lose the moment because you relied on one card one when several can solve that problem. At the very least, you want to get more than one of whatever size you settle on.

Read the Kodak paper work VERY carefully and do NOT use regular alkaline batteries in this camera without having written permission from Kodak in hand.
Meanwhile, back at the store, ask them for the user manual so you can read exactly what Kodak has written.

Kodak EasyShare Z1085 IS Reviews by Digital Camera-HQ Users
- 4.0 out of 5
Pros: Exellent choice of manual setting
High ISO
Adjustable shutter speed up to 1000
Exellent range of scene select and easy 1 click shot selection
I have never had a camera with such outstanding video quality unbelievable
Cons:
Low battery life I might be wrong when I get the Charger and battery kit which is another £30 with a battery output of 3.7v maybe this will yield better life than 2x 1.2v Ni-Hm batts???
The internal memory has the tendency to malfunction probably due to sight overheat

battery life is terrible-went through 3 sets (brand New) at my daughters graduation-only took 30ish pictures!!!!

Camera comes with a CRV3 lithium pack rated at 400 pictures.
Camera locked at 70 pictures. had to replace pack with Lithium AA rated at 280 pictures.
Camera locked at 120 pictures. Sent camera to repair depot. they said camera not-fixable and replaced with re-furbished (read 'already broken') camera.
first re-furbished camera would lock after 20 pictures, but if batteries removed and replace after 1minute would unlock - returned after 3 weeks
2nd refurbished camera batteries got so hot after 40 pictures could not hold in hand- replaced after 2 weeks.
3rd refurbished locked after 50 pictures. new batteries took 4 tries before camera unlocked. I asked Kodak for a credit on a different model and they offered me another refurbished at a price more than buying that model new from a discounter.
I don't remember ever dropping any of the 4 z1085 kodak supplied, or other rough handling. I believe their warranty program consists of simpling re-packing someone else's broken camera and replacing your broken camera with it.
We had a Canon powershot S20 before this for 7 years, traveled extensively with still works without problems. We replaced because the S20 only has 3.3 megapixals and uses a proprietary battery that is expensive and needs constant charging.

i love this camera—i just bought a second one for a sibling because it's the easiest, lightest camera—hd 720p for a pittance and it's very sturdy; the menu system is great and easy to use
