Konica Minolta DiMAGE S404 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
Be advised, however, that since it's out of warranty, it may cost more to repair than it is really worth. The rule of thumb is that if the estimate for repair is north of 50% what you paid for it, you're better off taking that money and buying a newer and upgraded model.
But since this camera is pushing 4 years old now, perhaps it's time to do just that.
You're not going to want to hear this, but the camera might just be... old. Digital devices like cameras are very delicate and are unforunately prone to breakdowns toward the end of the product life cycle. Given how old the camera is, and how much it would probably cost to repair it if you sent it in to Sony (who now handle Konica/Minolta repairs), you might want to consider it a doorstop and move on to a better model.
Sorry I can't be more helpful than that. :[

Due to location of on/off rotary switch camera would turn on while in bag causing trauma as the lens would try to emerge. The flash also quit.
I'm guessing that the cost of repair would far exceed replacement.. no more Minoltas for me.

very good image when the camera decides to turn on. i have had a problem with the camera when I turn it off the camera wont power on unless I let it sit. The camera wont turn on even is the power cord is used. (it is not my Batts)
Image quality is a plus but it is rare to get them when the camera wont power on.
I have a Dimage 7 that works flawlessly and a Nikon coolpix 8400, but the s404 is garbage.

In "fine" mode I made excellent 8X10s, very happy with camera until--one year after purchase---flash goes out. Repair prices are near price of newer, better cameras--very disappointing. I check out consumer reports and discover reliability is not Minolta's strong suit. So I guess I'll spring for a Nikon unless I can find cheaper flash repair....

Very happy with photo quality -- was died in the wool film camera guy. Nice feature set for price. Unfortunately, ERR message was an intermittent and unpredictable problem, often at critical times for those must have pics. Finally died on Christmas Eve... and Minolta never replied to my email! (I fear repair cost will exceed replacement cost.)
