Konica Minolta DiMAGE X20
Editor's Review
The slender Minolta DiMAGE X20 should appeal to budget-minded snapshooters in search of an ultra-portable point & shoot camera. Featuring the same vertical lens design as the more expensive Minolta Xt, the X20 offers a 3x optical zoom with no exterior lens motion. Though the X20's price is very appealing, the lack of an optical viewfinder may cause some buyers to think twice.

Minolta is out of the digital camera business now. SONY, however, has taken over repair and support for Minolta brand cameras. Recommend you contact them for an estimate. Rule of thumb is that if it costs 50% or more of the sale price to fix it. And considering the age of the camera, you're much better off getting a new one that will give you more bang for the buck.
esupport.sony.com/US/perl/n... again, Thanks James!
This definitely sounds like a mechanical failure. Since this is quite an old model, it's not entirely unexpected. I would contact Sony (who have taken over Konica/Minolta repairs since they bought their business) and make an inquiry as to what it would cost to get it fixed. You'll probably have to pay quite a bit, so it might be a good time to consider upgrading. On the other hand, there's the off chance that Sony might be short on spare parts for older Konica models, and might offer you a replacement model. Worth a shot to find out.
You can reach Sony's repair department here ( eservice.sony.com/webrma/we... ).
Good luck!
Does anyone know a repair or service shop that can make this kind of adjustment. It is my assumption that a adjustment will suffice. It is possible parts may need to be replaced.
But remember the rule of thumb on repairs, if it costs north of 50% the camera price to fix, you're better off buying a new model.
-The card isn't compatible with your camera. Check your manual to make sure.
-The memory card might need to be formatted. Try to reformat through your camera's memory options.
-The card might just be messed up. Try testing with another card.
I would hope/ assume the problem is the card before I'd worry about the camera. So check this stuff first.

The same thing happened to me that seems to have happened to the rest of you. It worked great for about 2 years, then decided that it just wanted to stop working...showing nothing but a black screen with a few horizontal white lines. boo!

I loved this camera, especially the movie making mode. Did heaps of shooting over two years in many countries. The all of a sudden it would not focus. Tried lots of manual adjustments but no longer useful. The cost of repair at standard rate from Sony (Minolta does not service digital anymore) was US$111 so not worth to repair. Bummer! R.I.P. XT

Like i implied in my title, i took alot of pictures and videos but it just suddenly stopped working one day! When turned on the LCD has shows weird unstable lines! I was very disappointed when it stopped working because I was going on a trip and expecting to take lots of pictures. I have Fuji Finepix S602 backup camera but I always took the X20 whenever I went to places because of its size. It was good while it lasted but I am still disappointed by the way it went out!

Same problem as below. A lot of lines.
I read about a recall that was done. Look http://www.konicaminoltasupport.com/English.importantnotice_en.0.html
I hope this helps

I enjoyed this camera while it lasted. Then, one day I took a picture and there were vertical lines going through the picture. A week later, the camera has lines running horizontally while the screen is turned on and will not allow me to take pictures. Never abused or mistreated. Kind of disappointed that this happened all of a sudden.

Bought this camera 2 1/2 years ago and it has been working very nice with re-chargeble batteries. Quality is fair, and movie quality fair for the price. Worried about some of the remarks I saw on your reviews, Lets hope mine lasts.

Same problem this weekend as several reviews here - camera went 'blind' - screen works, but the camera apparently can't 'see' anything. I was hoping to find some encouraging repair stories here, but apparently I'm going to have to get used to life without a camera for a while...

The camera worked very well.... until the screen just went blank and made it so that I can no longer take pictures with it. After doing some research, this problem is common with this camera. Expect to have to buy a new camera after a couple of years, this one lacks durability, even under normal wear and tear.

Camera took great pictures, but has died exactly 2 years after purchase. Minolta quoted repair cost almost equals price I paid. I will purchase another brand.

Was compact and good photos... until one day it just quit working. While display screen showed photo count battery life etc., the background stayed black. I shutter to think what the problem was...and yes the lens cover was opening...

Looked forward to getting this camera and at first was very impressed, good video mode and can even add sound effects to your clips. And its so small and easy to use...
Image quality however is not a patch on my old canon powershot A60, which admitably was much larger..
The biggest problem comes when shooting indoors - usually get noise, and the red eye doesn't seem to be very effective, not only that shots are blurred.
Outdoors things get much better but the image is still not that sharp (though 10 times sharper than indoors!)...
Reviews suggest it should be better than mine is and I have to say when I first got it I was impressed so maybe like most other peoples its a case of was great, now somethings gone wrong - in my case that means the lens doesn't focus effectively?
It was refurbished.. I'm beginning to realise why theres so many refurbished x20's for sale on ebay!

i bought this camera 1 year ago. the battery life is teribble. and the lcd screen messes up frequently. i really hate this camera, and it suddenly deleted all my pics on my card for no reason. i recommend you not to buy this product at all.

same as what everyone is saying, great camera for a great price. but one day, for no apparent reason, when you need it, it doesn't turn on. mine turns on when connected to the usb so i could get everything from the card. but it won't take pictures.
oh yeah, and the slider that allows you to alternate between video and pictures stopped working a few months before the whole thing messed up, it moves but it won't change to video.

I got my Dimage X20 18 months ago, i took it to ecuador, in the Jungle and stuff. It got alot of wear, dropped many times etc. For the price, it took better pictures and lasted longer than many of my friends. I love the features and the size.

Do not let this camera's size fool you. It is a wonderful little item. For macro photography it is phenomenal. I was able to get better macro- pictures with this little wonder then with my 5.2 mega pixel. It is a great investment and just the right size for the pocket so you never miss that spur of the moment shot. A grade A product. I truly never leave home without it.

Almost like everyone else...camera was great when I got it and when it worked. It just gave up working and I hardly used the thing. I turn it on, red light flashes on top and won't stay on. Very disapointed.

I just bought this modle a few days ago from a Pawn shop. I haggeled with the Shop keep to lower the price to $100 It had a few scratches on the shell, but the LCD and everything else was in great shape. Its such a awesome camera. just another great product from Konica. Easy to use, above avg. for mp. I love it. You should check it out.

I've had my camera for 1.5 years and have loved it . I recently went to Jamaica, and it stopped working the 2nd day there, and hasn't worked since. A alternating red and yellow light comes on, on the side of the camera, but it won't power on. Wow what a bummer.
I truly loved my camera. It was a gift, and I won't be able to afford another one.
Maybe it was just too hot in Jamaica. 95 plus every day.
I would highly recommend the camera to anyone, especially anyone who is not too sure of themself when it comes to electronics, as I was. This camera led me to computers and the rest is history.
Oh, and by the way it printed great 8 X 10 pictures too. My house is covered with pictures, which I was able to print up, and change whenever I felt like it.
Take care, and I am proud to have been the owner of such a fine camera.

just after one year or so the shutter was spoilt for no apparent reason.

When it worked - it worked great. But after a year and a-half - just like the other reviewers noted - the circuitry just gave up. I could view pictures with the unit and even review the movies I had taken using the SD card - but the circuitry that fried was for taking the pictures. Well at least it was a gift - now I had went & got the new E500 - but unlike the the X20 (which allowed you to watch & "hear" your recorded movies - the new E500 does not allow you "hear" your video clips. You must play it back from a TV or PC to hear what you recorded. Sorry to lose the X20. It was good while it lasted.

Purchased the X20 as a gift for my dad. The camera wasn't abused or misused. I know it was hardly used the last 14 months. The electronic circuitry ceased to function at a repair price within dollars of a new sale priced X20; and 70 % of list price. Told them to throw it away. Not sure with what to replace the X20. Took great pictures when it worked.

I bought this Camera for my daughter as a Christmas present Dec 03. The electronics have fried and 2 camera stores have said it is not worth fixing, i.e. I can buy a newer model for the same price as fixing. I am disappointed in a Minolta that only has a 1.5 year life. My daughter loved it as long as it was working. Oh-yea, it was never dropped or abused! I'm not sure if I just got a lemon, but according to the camera store it appears that it is not unusual for them to go bad!
