Nikon Coolpix S1100pj
Editor's Review
The S1100pj would be like any run-of-the-mill point-and-shoot, if not for one incredibly awesome feature: the built-in projector. It projects pictures and videos onto a wall (or box or any flat surface, really) at sizes up to 47 inches. Sounds like a convenient way to instantly share shots with friends, at least compared to crowding around a 3-inch LCD. The S1100pj is an upgrade to the first-of-its-kind S1000pj, which worked surprisingly well for a first-generation product. This time around, the projector is 40 percent brighter and can even be used as an external projector for a computer. The look is more polished this time too, with a sleeker design and 3-inch touch screen LCD. The built-in projector is a clever concept, and we've heard of some clever uses for it -- for example, one artist projects pictures onto a canvas to use as a guide for his paintings. It's also pricey, especially as 5x zoom, CCD-sensor point-and-shoots go. It will probably remain a niche product like the S1000pj, but the face-lift and projector upgrade should garner additional attention this time around. Image quality is not what we expect from a $300+ camera, but let's face it: That projector is awesome.
