Nikon Coolpix S52
Editor's Review
Nikon's Coolpix S52 is a stylish supercompact digital that offers a 9-megapixel sensor paired with a 3x optically stabilized zoom lens. The camera also offers a respectable 100-3200 ISO range, allowing it to take good snapshots in dim light. A bevy of pre-programmed scene modes should appeal to casual photographers who just want to set it and forget it, though it lacks manual controls for more experimental users. Of further note is its all metal construction, which feels great in the hand and bespeaks a certain dedication to quality.

Nikon Coolpix S52 Comments & Questions (write your own!)
ive the Nikon Coolpix S52. My lens dose not come outward from my camara it just shoots sidways into the camara. Ive tried all of the ideas posted on this site and none have worked. I refuse to send it in because I have never let my camara drop so I know its nothing that I did. Everytime I turn on my camara it comes up lens error and if it turns on with out this message the image is slightly blured and no buttons are functional then it will turn off in under a minute but the lens will stay in the camara (wont close). Please help me find a solution!
-Thanks.
In addition, any front USB ports away from the main USB ports in the back do not carry enough electrical power to charge the camera. You must plug the USB into your rear ports.
This camera will travel very well due to its size, but will it have the features you're looking for on a European vacation? If you want to zoom in close to anything, the 3x optical zoom might leave you wanting more. You wil be able to get some brilliant landscape photos, and fit everyone in for a group picture, but will that be enough?
Something like the Panasonic TZ5 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ) might be a better option. It is in the same price range as the Nikon S52 ( digitalcamera-hq.com/digita... ), but it has a 10x optical zoom instead of 3 (and it still lets you get the wide angle group and landscape shots without a problem). The cameras both have 9MP resolution and fall in the the ultra-compact class for easy portability. I hope this helps; have a good vacation.

the camera she was asking about was the TZ5 i think you should understand what you are responding to before giving rubbish answers!

My photos are crystal clear up to and including 8 x 10
Have used 5 or 6 different digitals over the years,
this is a great little camera, save for some add'l zoom powers.

After only 6 months of ownership, using the camera only a few times, and never dropping it, my camera now has a "lens error" message that popped out of nowhere locking up my camera making it unusable.
I had a repair estimate of $170 dollars. The camera only cost me a little more than that.
I will forget the repair, cut my losses, and seek out a REPUTABLE camera company.
I don't care what the "professionals" say about Nikons, they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. I read other posts on various websites and realized this is a common problem with this camera...ah, hindsight...

After much research last year this is the camera I bought. I took it on a cruise and when I printed the pictures there were light spots on the photos. Took it back to the store and they told me it was because the lens and flash are so close together that when it flashes it picks up dust particles in the air. Gave me another camera...same model...it does the same thing. Would not give me a totally new camera, evne after I purched the insurance on it. Don't but it!!!

I bought this for carrying everywhere when I need quick shot at home or at work. This is a great camera that fills that need. I have another camera to use for more creative control.

This is the 4th digital camera I've owned, and the one I like the best! I get great pictures, it's very easy to use, and I can fit it in my pocket! For the price and convenience, I think this is a great camera!

The objective was to find a camera that a person with limited technical understanding could use easily and get good photos and could also be used effectively by a technical person who does some photo-editing. The Nikon S52 does both for my family. I'm the technical one and find it produces excellant photos. I'm still learning to use it well, but so far am quite delighted. It's really small, lots of features and they work well.
